An initial autopsy has revealed few clues in the mystery of what happened to a California family found dead on a hiking trail in the Sierra National Forest south of Yosemite.
John Gerrish, Ellen Chung and their 1-year-old daughter Miju ā as well as their family dog ā were found dead at the Devil's Gulch
Investigators said the deaths do not appear intentional, and they did not find a suicide note or any signs indicating premeditation.
Last month, the Forest Service cautioned on Facebook that people should avoid drinking or swimming in the Merced River due to the presence of toxic algae; unhealthy algae blooms are not uncommon in warm months in California bodies of water.
Toxicology results are expected in two to three weeks. A necropsy is also being conducted on the dog.

Are all their limbs attached? Was it blunt trauma or massive blood loss? Or perhaps lead poisoning? Or did they look fine except they were all pining for the fjords?
I had to give in and go to the link. This was helpful there:
“The Mariposa County Coroner’s Office was only able to rule out acute trauma, such as stabbing, gunshot wounds or blunt-force trauma. Toxicology results are expected in two to three weeks. A necropsy is also being conducted on the dog.”
I’m thinking aliens.
Couldn’t be mushroom poisoning because the dog wouldn’t eat them.
My first thought was CO poisoning, but that should have been clear at the first moment.
Now I suspect poison gases from the algae. (Which might be the blue-green algae known to be poisonous). An entire African village was once suffocated by a nearby lake’s gases.
Bad berries?ā¦
“Iām thinking aliens.”
Which kind?
I’m not saying it was aliens, but it was aliens.

Killed thousands!
==8-0
I remember that. About 2,OOO people died.
How sad, RIP
This one is a puzzler, all the more so since they’re not releasing much in the way of details.
Lightning would be about the only thing I could think would be so simultaneous.
It is the water.
Dog is dead and that would explain water as the source.
Nothing I’ve read about this indicates that any wildlife in the area were affected. If it was algae or carbon dioxide why was just this family affected?
“All questions and no answers.”
They’re just being cautious - one look at the picture and it’s obviously the guy.
Not the ones from this planet.
We had a problem with this sort of stuff on my home planet a few thousand years ago, but I was just a kid so my memory is foggy.
Instant covid? Dang.
Not poison “gas”; certain types of blue-green algae in raw water sources are dangerous or poisonous.
It’s important to understand the nasties are not killed by boiling or chemical disinfection, nor can portable water purifiers or filtering remedy the water safe, if I’m understanding it correctly, and I may not.
The African lake was super-saturated with carbon dioxide from volcanic gases in its lower depths. Nearly 700 feet deep.
But a shallow flowing river wouldn’t super-saturate.
Maybe murder-suicide, we will all go to sleep in this beautiful place? A natural poisoning would not likely be peaceful or quick; they likely would have used a phone to call for help.
