A COVID-19 patient in Oregon has died while waiting for an ICU bed to open up amid overrun hospitals across the U.S. due to the spread of the highly contagious Delta variant...
"It had been several hours because other COVID positive patients had filled those beds. Even after expanding ICU care onto other floors, there weren't any beds available for this patient. We didn't have enough. This patient died in the Emergency Department waiting for an Intensive Care Unit bed."...
...The state only has 41 ICU beds and 310 non-ICU beds available for patients, while 870 COVID-19 patients are currently hospitalized in Oregon with 128 on ventilators.

I just checked Oregon’s daily data.
There are more patients in ICU right now with suspected CoupFlu than have tested positive for CoupFlu. Not that the latter means much.
This story is BS.
Oregon’s numbers are crap.
They count suspected in with the confirmed.
Even in the hospital utilization data.
Newsweek’s crap story is from a state peddling crap data.
GUTTER ‘JOURNALISM’
“The state only has 41 ICU beds and 310 non-ICU beds available for patients”
What the hell does that mean?
1. Does it mean they ONLY have 41 ICU beds total?
2. Does it mean that they may have more than 41 ICU beds, but only enough staff to manage 41 ICU beds?
3. Does it mean they have far more than 41 ICU beds, but only 41 are presently ‘open’ (not occupied) at the given moment in time?
My guess is #3. And if that’s the case, just how many are normally available to patients where there isn’t a pandemic? 41 wouldn’t surprise me. Here’s an article from March 2019, long before the pandemic:
Does Oregon have a plan to extract Americans trapped in Afghanistan?
I’m so old I remember “two weeks to flatten the curve” to allow hospitals to ramp up and prepare for a large number of Covid-19 patients. The two weeks was to allow them to put in place contingency plans should they be over-run with patients. Apparently, the committee in charge of those plans is still debating which coffee shop to order their coffee and donuts from.
Oregon population as of 2020....4,300,000
Number of ICU beds in the state....41
...you do the math
Covid shmovid.
there’s really not much. Tocilizumab seems pretty common from comments on FR and from the treatment guidelines put out by the CDC, and also Dexamethasone - that’s the steroid?. But once the lungs start losing ability to absorb room air o2, (covid is said to migrate fat to the lungs which clog the works up) it puts all the organs in hypoxia which is not cool for hearts or minds. So a higher concentration of o2 is needed. I always cringe when I read studies like the below which talk about people vented for 30 or more days. Yikes!
trial for another i-mab but the race for more alternatives is still on:

I work for a home care agency desperately needing more nurses and aides. All their new people foreign born, communication a real problem. And yet I don’t see advertising for staff. You would have to pay more money and they have insurance and Medicare capping reimbursement. So they are trying to use our duty and compassion to wring ever more hours out of us.
Big teaching hospitals hire American born BSNs, and some of them are begging for enough hours to receive benefits.
Every other facility is increasingly relying on foreign born staff, nursing homes have special wings for foreign born patients, Korean, Chinese, Indian, with staff and patients sharing a culture and a language, ethnic cuisine. You can’t ask for the American wing, because it’s full of Caribbean and African staff.
God help you and your lived one if you run afoul of an autocrat Indian doctor on his turf.
Business model: immigrants are cheaper.
Oregon - Hotbed of Conservative Antivax Trump Supporters
More fear porn and another reporter or 2 that need prison time when this is over with.
I think it’s safe to presume he was vaccinated.

Bingo. “Vaccinated is the new “Democrat”.
If one reads a story about some politician who is accused of doing something nefarious, and there is no mention of pity affiliation, you know he’s a Democrat. So now, if one hears of some Covid tragedy, and no mention is made of vaccination status, one can bet the person was vaccinated.
Pity -> Party
“One really cannot depend upon the medical system these days. It has become hopelessly corrupt.”
So it appears. Aren’t Doctors under oath? Maybe the oath only applies to their opinions relative to the CDC and Doctor Fauchi?
Then there is this: Since most doctors won’t treat this virus at all until you’re on the brink of death, prepare yourself. How did this get to be the standard of care?
Clever mixing of stats. These people are sick! And I'm not talking about the patients.
I thank my lucky stars that MY doctor has told me unequivocally that he WILL treat me early if I catch it. Been a year and a half and I haven’t managed to. And NO, I’m not vaccinated.
Yes you should count those lucky stars. You have a very brave physician apparently willing to risk his license to practise medicine. Early treatment is the key to survival and oh so many in the medical field unwilling to treat a covid diagnosis early.
If I were to confront my doc with this idea, I am not sure what the reaction would be. He flew to FL very early I think Feb or March of twenty to get the jab. He was also a masker from the get go.
If he was one of the unvaxxed...he deserved it, right?
If he was one of the vaxxed, he’s not really dead because...science.
meet Roseburg:
Cotterell made the mistake of dismissing gender fluidity.
i did a check on ICU capability and the BizJournal was clearer:
“Only 41 ICU beds out of 652 total were available throughout the state, according to the Oregon Health Authority. The region encompassing eight central and southern Oregon counties, including Deschutes County, has just four open ICU beds.”
At first that shocked me, too. But the key to making sense out of that is the last clause in that sentence: “available for patients.”
The ICU beds are almost 100% utilized and there are only 41 left (available for use).
