Earlier this month, we brought you the story of a Fremont Chevrolet mechanic caught taking a customer's C8 Corvette for a high-speed joyride, and it was even worse than that classic setup makes it sound. The tech ran the car up to 148 mph on a public highway in a street race that went viral once the video from the car's Performance Data Recorder was shared online.
Michael showed up at the dealership the next morning, the general manager, Boni, met him outside, and he was taken to his office where the paperwork was completed and the new car was ordered. "We configured my 2022 together, [and] he let me push the submit button so my order is in with GM."

Wow. Not only was the mechanic driving crazy fast, he and the car he was chasing were weaving around other cars on the highway.
The ‘flight recorder’ on the car, however, is awesome. Not only the camera, but speed, current gear, and a G-force gauge.
If you don’t drive a high performance car really fast and put it through its paces, you don’t really know it’s condition.
The owner didn’t buy it to drive it like great grandma.
The street race was over the top though.
Haven’t had a chance at one of those. Would imagine that it’s lighter than the Supra therefore quicker. Prolly a rip running that ride, though somewhat narrower than the Supra, would have to be careful on the corners.
“If you don’t drive a high performance car really fast and put it through its paces, you don’t really know it’s condition.”
Eggsactly.
Yeah, my wife’s a manager for one of those tire-n-lube companies. She got home from work two hours late last evening because one of their whiz-bang master ‘mechanics’ (or ‘techs’, as they refer to them) busted a ball joint on a customer’s car - and he wasn’t even working on the front end. Luckily, she was off today and didn’t have to deal with an irate customer.
Oops, you are correct, it was a Ford Mustang GT 5.0L with a Performance Package.
even corrected most would still not get it. Vette Corvette...
not a gift. Settlement of a contractual obligation.
Also, don't confuse the Ford Mustang GT with the Ford GT.
This is a Ford GT:
Back around 2003, a local Ford dealer was servicing a local Doctors Ford GT. Not a mustang but the racing GT mid engine race car. The battery was defective. New battery installed and the tech and another shop guy decided they needed to test drive the GT. You guessed it, they wrecked it. Dealer would not replace the car. Lawyers involved and much money spent. The doc got the same car, repaired.
Drag Race: C8 Corvette Vs Challenger Hellcat Red Eye
Finished in yellow, the C8 Corvette is equipped with the Z51 Performance Package. With its more potent 6.2-liter supercharged V8 generating a colossal 797 hp and 707 lb-ft of torque and massive drag radials, the Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat Redeye was always going to beat the stock C8 Corvette, but it's a closer race than you might think. Despite having a significant power disadvantage, the C8 Corvette crosses the quarter-mile line in 11.37 seconds - only around 0.6 seconds slower than the Red Eye, which posted a quarter-mile time of 10.77 seconds.
In the second race, the C8 Corvette is pitted against a Mustang GT. Unsurprisingly, Ford's pony car is no match for the mighty Corvette, which posts a quarter-mile time of 11.19 seconds, compared to the Mustang's 12.50 seconds.
After defeating the Mustang, the Corvette's next victim is a fourth-generation Chevrolet Camaro, which crosses the quarter-mile in 11.87 seconds, around 0.3 seconds slower than the Corvette's time of 11.51 seconds.
Finally, a Challenger R/T Scat Pack attempts to steal the Corvette's thunder. In terms of power, these two cars are more evenly matched: the Scat Pack has five less ponies and five more lb-ft of torque than the Corvette.
Its extra torque allows it to pull ahead, but it's carrying a lot more weight. Consequentially, it doesn't take long for the Corvette to catch up and leave it for dust, securing another victory with a quarter-mile time of 11.81 seconds compared to the Scat Pack's time of 12.26 seconds.
“fourth-generation Chevrolet Camaro,”
Definitely NOT. stock.
aw, he was just test driving it to make sure his repair worked ...
I’ll be the odd man out here and say this is not as terrible as it sounds.
“I feel like I’m getting jerked around here. Your company destroyed my car under your negligence and I feel like you guys need to take care of this,” Hansen said.
Nero Deliwala, the owner of Titan Motorsports, told WESH 2 News over the phone the contract Hansen signed releases Titan from responsibility for any damage that occurs when a car is in their possession.
“Our terms and conditions clearly state who’s responsible for the damage. I’m completely sympathetic towards Vince and the inconvenience it’s caused him. It was an accident and accidents happens,” Deliwala said.
WESH 2 News showed the contract Hansen signed to attorney Hank Hornsby.
“The autobody shop can make the argument that they are not responsible to pay for those damages. Which really brings us to a consumer beware. Before you leave something at an auto body shop, be sure you know what you’re signing away,” Hornsby said.

I think that is a safe statement that no one can argue, unless they are not all together there. 🙂
Fired? He should be arrested for car theft.
I’m going to use the Dan Rather/CBS defense of fake, but accurate.
