EV Bike From Offset Brings Dirt Bike Power to Carbon-Free Electric Riding

They may be new to the EV motorcycle manufacturing game, but Danish manufacturer Offset is crashing the party with style and guts.

Their new battery-powered cycle, OFR-M1, does what few have tried before by cramming a brawny all-electric drivetrain into a cycle aimed at taking on off-road terrain.

While it may weigh in at just 253 pounds (115 kg), this rough and tumble dirtbike can do zero to 62 mph (99 kph) in 4.5 seconds and reach a top speed of 80 mph (128 kph). It does the trick by using a 6.2 kWh battery pack to spin a “radial flux” motor to produce 33.5 hp (25kW) and an impressive 59 ft-lbs of torque.

Electric motors can generally be classified into two categories - radial and axial flux designs. Radial flux machines are more common and have been in use for a very long time. The difference is that radial flux machines feature a magnetic flux direction that follows a radial path.

And the filthy fun can last for up to 1.5 hours and then be brought back up to 85 percent charge in around 3 hours.

The OFR-M1 also features a mono-shock rear suspension, a chain final drive and wave brake rotors to provide the stopping power.

“We are extremely happy to be able to reveal the design. We have spent many months perfecting our product vision and we believe that the outcome is a reflection of that. The all-electric drivetrain has paved the way for our new minimalistic design without compromising on performance,” wrote Offset CEO and co-founder, Jakob Kistorp, to announce the OFR-M1 rollout.

The men behind Offset and the OFR-M1, Kistorp and Kasper Ottesen, operate out of Offset Motorcycles in Copenhagen, Denmark.

Kistorp says Offset will begin taking preorders for the OFR-M1 starting in 2022.

80% of the reason dirt bikes are popular is the noise, and these bikes will not access that market. Fortunately, the other 20% of the riders do it to grind the trails and wildlife into muddy ravines — the bikes will still accomplish that.

“Carbon free.”

Yep! Well, except for how the electricity is generated, and the carbon used to manufacture power plants and the bike itself. Including mining the lithium for the batteries. Other than that...

Carbon Free!!!!!

I see a lot of carbon there from the dirt bike to the rider. Everything is made of carbon.

Now he runs out of electricity in the middle of nowhere as that tends to be where dirt bike riders generally go and no one can get him a can of gas as that would be useless.
Another toy.

Carbon free? LOL, we are living in the twilight zone, where the electricity to power these ‘miracle bikes’ comes out of the zero point field, with no carbon impact ... in the minds of the fools writing this crap.

The design engineers sure beat the heck out of it with an ugly stick, didn’t they?

No carbon in the mining of the materials to build it. Morons.

Yup. Made from all natural components. No petro products were used in it’s production right? Sort of like tesla and honda EVs and chevy bolts and ford f-150 lighting EV pick up trucks. No carbon products. ZERO. Right? Grrrrrrr!

Most Trials stuff is done standing on the pegs. So much so that Trials bikes don't even have seats.

Most off road and trail riding (except for whoops and jumps) is done seated. That's why dirt bikes have seats.

I’m a mountain bike or a pretty hard core one and I have been one for about 35 years now

More and more these days I see bikes with motors in electrical assist

I frown upon them and will never own one myself and forbid my children to ever own one Until they’re adults and if they want to buy it with her own money

Why? Because it defeats the entire purpose and then all of a sudden you have a 60 pound bicycle instead of a 30 pound bicycle which you can’t do nearly as much with in terms of writing capability

Now I’m going to be fair and I’ve seen some older folks in their 70s they have electric assist bikes and they swear by them and said that they would be able to do it otherwise and I’m fine with that

But once you get an electric motor you’re gonna be getting all kinds of headaches that you’ll never have with the regular mountain bike

The same thing applies to motor bikes and dirt bikes

I have seen a lot of off road type bikes on the main roads in foreign countries. Smaller, lightweight and easy on gas, they are a popular form of transportation. Rough roads are no problem and they are made tough. I can see this type of EV bike being a very popular form of transportation. Not sure of its popularity in the racing community though.
