WASHINGTON, Saturday, Aug. 17.
A heavy seizure of goods destined for the rebels was made near Annapolis Junction to-day. The goods were bought by parties in Baltimore for Richmond dealers. A draft for $4,975 was sent to pay for them. With the goods were also seized the teams and wagons by which they were being conveyed, and a number of letters to officers in the rebel Army. Besides the value of the goods, this seizure is important, as the man in charge of the goods furnishes also much information of the manner in which communications are kept up between Baltimore and the rebel States.
SHELLING THE WOODS AT MATHIAS POINT.
Since the affair at Mathias Point, the steamer Freeborn went down and shelled the woods from whence the rebels fired, clearing them up and rendering them untenable, for the time being at least.
THE SEVENTY-NINTH MUTINEERS.
The court-martial will take up the case of the mutineers of the Seventy-ninth on Monday.
PASSES.
Gen. PORTER, the Provost-Marshal, commenced issuing passes to-day. Lieut. BACHE has charge of that department, but all passes are signed by Gen. PORTER. The greatest caution is observed in granting them, and a record is kept of all issued.
BRIGADIERS.
EGBERT L. VIELE, of New-York, has been appointed a Brigadier-General of the volunteers. HALLOCK, of California, has also been appointed a Brigadier. Both are graduates of West Point, and served with distinction in the Mexican War.
ENGLAND AND THE BLOCKADE.
Notwithstanding the rumors about the dissatisfaction of England and France at the alleged ineffectiveness of our blockade, there has been no intimation from any Government with which we have commercial intercourse, of any intention or desire to violate it. Indeed, all nations have thus far practically respected it.

The south took its self right out of the mix, never tried to overthrow Lincoln. How is this a rebellion? Your spouse walking out on you after years of abuse is a rebellion of your b.s. Not an invite to inflict violence upon their person.
Hi Professor. I hope you are doing well.
“...there has been no intimation from any Government with which we have commercial intercourse, of any intention or desire to violate it. Indeed, all nations have thus far practically respected it.”
Allow me to say, no. Whether Spain, England, France whomever, were selling goods via Cuba, the Bahamas or Mexico.
Some news copy just gets me sometimes.
