THANK YOU President Trump for ending this costly 20 year war
FreeRepublic ^ | Aug 16 | RandFan

Trump deserves enormous credit for ending the war in Afghanistan something Barack “surge” Obama couldn’t do as he was a useful puppet to the Military Industrial Complex.

President Trump had the courage to negotiate with the Taliban and agreed a deal to get all troops out by the end of 2020 only for the neocons like Liz Cheney teaming up with Democrats in the House to stop it and punt it until well into 2021 (i.e now).

To the tough guy neocons on both sides: Accept this. To the generals who don’t have a clue and think every country wants a Western style democracy (or Republic?) Wake up and stop doing the bidding of the Military Industrial Complex. Your treachery and lies will be revealed in good time.

This is a great day and victory for taxpayers. Tens of billions of dollars will no longer be shipped to that sh*thole every year.

With this war ended a vast gravy train has also ended and no more blood and treasure will be spilt in this godforsaken land (of ours at least).

Every cloud ….

“Helping Afghanistan become self-sustaining is going to be a monumental task. It's going to take up to a decade, and more blood will be spilled and more treasure will be spent. But I think it's important”

- Joe Biden, 2008

I don’t have a problem leaving Afghanistan. But they embarrassed us. It was like the Fall of Saigon.

It's wonderful that the Taliban is back in charge and will soon be helping terrorist groups plot attacks against the US.

That certainly isn't Trump's fault because he never would have left and allowed the Taliban to waltz right and takeover.

The Paultards are as insane as the neo-cons. Isolationism was Clinton's foreign policy.

Biden would still be saying this same cr*p had Trump not put the wheels in motion and the troops would still be there!

He certainly didn’t express any of the opinions he did this afternoon when he was senator or VP.

Must be hard for him to swallow this.

Anyway, I don’t want to gloat. I’m pleased no more lives will be lost there for nothing.

Only time will tell. If they had learned their lesson, they would be like Kin's North Korea. All bark no bite. But if something happens, the next American President is going to have to take care of the problem.

Isolationism was Clinton's foreign policy.

Huh? Have you forgotten Clinton's Balkan War?

Or his Secretary of State, Madeline Albright, who said (I paraphrase), "What's the point of having the world's largest military if you never use it?"

This is a great day

People suffering and being slaughtered unnecessarily due totally incompetent decisions that did not have to be made, zero transition plan, Al Qaeda getting their state back, and the reputation of the United States damaged severely and perhaps irrevocably is not a cause for celebration. This is an unmitigated disaster. If you think this is a 'great day' there is something seriously wrong with you.

Joe Biden is a politician, nothing more. He had made a political calculation that we had to get out of Afghanistan, no matter what the costs may be.

Is the US Military meant to occupy nations forever at a cost of $50 billion+ year?

OBL was killed in 2010 (though I think he was dead long before then).

President Trump made the wise and correct decision to end this war.

Hypocrites like Biden and Obama look as stupid as they sound.

Disagree completely.

There should have been plans to keep a contingency force there and based on what’s been said it would appear ~3000 or so troops kept the supposed 75,000 Taliban in check and that says a lot. The vast majority of the Afghan Army were pussies to put it bluntly, with no will to fight or even care about their country.

We’ll wait and see where they attack the US next because it will happen.

Probably come in through the southern border which is wide open. Hopefully they attack DC because that’s where America’s problems are.

Right - merely “leaving Afghanistan” is not what just happened. We would have left / be leaving under Trump - but not like this. This result is not the deal Trump made. Trump himself is outraged at how this was done. And someone makes a post of celebration? Unnecessary death and destruction, a newly formed terrorist state, perhaps one of the most humiliating international spectacles for the United States in our country’s history, and the United States’ reputation severely and possibly permanently damaged. And someone makes a post to celebrate this? “This is a great day”?

Biden did not have much choice.. The ultimate deal was done by Trump and took years to put together. It was meant to end in December 2020 but Cheney and co. managed to delay it until now.

I suppose a functioning president could have reversed it but there is huge public support for ending this conflict and bringing the troops home.

Also I doubt Biden could have sold it to the left like Obama did for 8 years.

Trump boxed them in. Check mate!

No kidding. Neocons being wrong doesn't make Paleocons right. Their foreign policy ideas are both delusional, for opposite reasons. It's like how Daniel Craig and Pierce Brosnan were both lousy James Bond's, for OPPOSITE reasons.

Likewise, there's a decent middle ground between the "Israel is always right 100% of the time cuz the Bible says so!" and the "Zionists control the world, Free Palestine from the Jewish occupiation!" crowd.

Hate the break the news to FReepers who now parrot the words from Michael Moore and Cindy Sheehan during the Bush era, but the leftists who snarkily predicted that Saddam would 'use his WMDs on us', we'd never get Saddam or take out Bin Laden, there was no way we could establish democratic elections in Iraq, and the surge strategy 'would never work' and we'd be stuck in a "Quadmire" forever in Iraq....

...ended up ACTUALLY on the "WRONG side of history", as they liked to accuse us of being at the time.

Hence the quote in my OP. From 2008.

One big issue in all of this - ‘negotiating with the Taliban’. These are 7th century throwback Mohammedans cruel, nasty and bloodthirsty barbarians.
We had them contained at least until this disaster of a retreat. Welcome back pre 9/11 terrorist training grounds.

It took Pelosi, Schiff,Facebook, media and the fbi and four years of non stop lying to take out Trump.
They are all culpable.

Oh and massive cheating.

Have you seen the plane loads of young military age Afghanis that are loaded onto planes coming to America?

The war isn’t ending there. It’s coming here.

Taliban were clear: All foreigners out. No contingency force.

So what do you say to that?

Another 20 years of conflict and 2 trillion dollars?
