"The Great Rebellion: Further Reports of the Battle of Wilson’s Creek – 2-3"

The Times is still hoping to make it sound like a Union victory, and, just as at Bull Run, up to a certain point it was.
But then three things happened which turned it to a Confederate victory:

1. Union forces under Gen. Lyon lost contact with those under Col. Sigel and could not support each other.
2. Co. Sigel failed to post sentries and so was surprised by Confederates attacking his flank.
3. Gen. Lyon was killed and without his leadership Union forces retreated.

So we'll see how long it takes the Times to tell us the hard truth of this matter.
