I don't have the references, but I've seen where believers in anthropogenic global warming have denied that there was a Little Ice Age or Medieval Warm Period or that they were very regional effects confined to Europe so they don't count. They had to destroy any large variations within recorded history and the agricultural abundance during the MWP to be able to induce panic about weather changes today.

It's really very simple. The cause of Communism was so thoroughly discredited in the 20th Century that all of the little Bolsheviks realized that they were going to have to have a re-branding before they could make any headway against the populations that had proved Red-resistant. So instead of continuing to claim that Capitalism is unsustainable, they changed course 180 degrees and began complaining that it had been too successful. So successful in fact that it was destroying the planet, and nothing other than a monolithic, totalitarian government can save the Earth.

So the crimson Communists painted themselves green on the outside, thus creating the Watermelon movement.
