More than two centuries later, by realizing that hope, are we coming close to destroying what they created?
“We are soldiers so that our sons can be farmers and their sons can be poets” is a quote often attributed to John Adams. He likely never uttered those words, but he did write something similar in a letter to a friend. While the sentiments he expressed -- the hope that our children will have better lives than we -- is understandable and something we all share, it loses sight of how a civilization is created and, more importantly, how it is maintained.
Adams’s hope was that, by launching the revolutionary war, through suffering and sacrifice, he and his colleagues could secure a better future for their progeny. In this hope, history has smiled on his aspirations. But Adams was, and many of us are, wrong in the fundamental belief that the goal is an easy life of reflection and repose for our heirs.
In contemporary terms, the analogous quote might be “Our fathers were farmers, (ironworkers, miners, etc.) so that we can be managers, and our children can be video gamers, Youtubers, TikTokers, etc.” Our fathers built, we manage, and our children express themselves.
There were many currents and shifts in our culture that led us to this place, but the two most important changes are how we view work and how we view art.
The number of Americans involved in actually building and creating things has diminished to a small fraction of what it was in the middle of the twentieth century. There are still factories producing cars, trucks, appliances, and other consumer goods, but the people employed in these industries, as a percentage of the population, are a small fraction of what they were after WWII.

We are watching how societies fail. Mass insanity and the sane can’t turn it around.
.
The reality though, is that control freak humans will always exist and they do anything they can to exert control over others. They join together in groups, like the democrat party, and use this thing called government to further exert control over others.
No piece of paper with words on it is going to stop these control freaks. Only good men who stand up to their evil will stop them and continue to hold them at bay in-purpituity.
No signed paper can carry the iron.
Our wounds are 100% self inflicted. And they gave us the best Country in the World. With the highest and best standard of living the World has ever known. We spit.... no we pissed in their [Our Forefathers] face and figuratively told and actually showed them that we did not want, wish, nor desire the Country they bequeathed to us. To begin with, in their infinite wisdom, the People elected an imposter from Kenya to rule over them. And to add insult to injury, they selected the biggest liar, crook, and thief ever known to have the rule over them. So whatever comes to pass, they richly deserve. Myself and about 80 million who voted for President Trump don’t. But the rain falls upon the unjust as well as the just.
Joe McCarthy: Told ya so! Told ya so! Told ya so!
I reckon so.
Adversity makes men; prosperity makes monsters.
Mmmmm, yeah, they were so convinced there would be peace that didn’t even bother to make provisions for defending against tyranny…..
Of course that would be true if you took the NRA’s approach to the Second Amendment…….
Men of the 18th. century, high born or low brow had only one real identifying attribute of themselves and that was their honor and integrity and finding and living as men in this in this new land and system of free thought and free enterprise. 18th. century America was a rough and very dangerous place. Men, and women had to be tougher. Over all they proved to be tougher and they did well, the men and women who came to this continent to live as the Lord intended all peoples to live and prosper, freedom.
We The People have serious issues and problems, very grave problems right now. But America is NOT the problem. It's time to put aside who comes from what point on the compass of this great , wide open still free nation. It matters that we come together and save the last great bastion of liberty and self-determination had better vote all of the Democrats out in 2022 mid terms and hope to God we regain control of Congress or we're lost as The United States of America as we of so many previous generations ,including mine, remember it. No doubt what ever the outcome of the 2022 mid term results The Democrats will have mobilized their privates armies , BLM and Antifa, the “Sturmabteilung’’ (SA)and “Schutzstaffel’’ (SS)respectively to burn , and riot and terrorize because what ever the vote they'll want it known to the citizenry that their stock in trade is still engaging in intimidation and physical violence to silence the voices and free expression of people and groups who's opinions they don't respect or are exposing their hypocrisy and the real plan to a ''trans formative America''. and they resort to the tactics of Leftists like the Nazis in Germany and Stalin's NKVD in Russia in the 1920's and 1930's they intent is still the same, to forcibly silence conservatives voices and silencing all opposition in the name of ''social justice'', We're in for nasty weather.
They did suffer so we, their posterity, could enjoy the freedom of liberty and a republic, if we could keep it. We kept it for about 240 years or so, and we have lost it. I am ashamed to be of the generation that lost this republic.
Gettin' jiggy wid it, indeed.
