Babies born in the Covid pandemic 'have lower IQs': Three-month-olds now score around 80 on intelligence tests - compared to 100 before the virus struck, research says

Children born during the Covid pandemic may have lower IQs because of reduced interactions during lockdowns, a study has claimed.

Researchers from Brown University in Rhode Island found babies born since March 2020 have worse cognitive, verbal and motor skills than children who entered the world before coronavirus.

Lockdowns have meant children have significantly less interaction with the outside world, leading to 'shockingly' low cognitive development.

He told The Guardian: 'It’s not subtle by any stretch. You don’t typically see things like that, outside of major cognitive disorders.'

Scientists tested the children on verbal, non-verbal and early-learning skills to assess their development.

They calculate an early composite rather than using the usual IQ test used for adults.

I’m going to say a test of iq at infancy is junk science.

I think this is comical. Sorry, but there is no way a three-month-old is going to exhibit any kind of meaningful intelligence level at that age, or any other age below school age.

So, if I was born during the covid quarantine, my 20 IQ drop would still leave me a genius.

I suspect a lot of that is due a lack of stimulation from being cooped up in the house for those two years. Most of that IQ could be retained if people just got out of the house and did things. Training can make up for a lot of things.

Referring to the measured cognitive ability of an infant as IQ does seem to be quite presumptive. However, the people who keep track of early childhood development would certainly be able to spot problems. So, I would not write off this report as bogus.

Thank you Obama/Fauci and China. I guess that is one way to fix the Shockley Bell Curve finding. Reduce the IQ of babies.

It’s not helping that you have idiots that think the diapers go on the baby’s face and not the butt.

uh, i don’t know anything about this test, but it doesn’t say iq. it says verbal development quotient. that is at least plausible as infants start following their mom’s voice, facial expressions, verbal cues and baby talk from the get go.

They measure based on typical stages of cognitive development, not their ability to perform calculus computations.

This is how they know if children have developmental problems or not.

I.e, you don’t have to wait till age 18 to realize your kid has a developmental problem.

Think for a moment what life was like for a newborn for the first several months before the panic-demic. New people showing up and making the baby interact with them. Things being waved in their faces and gifts like drifting mobiles and all kinds of toys. Now, post panic-demic nobody comes, probably many fewer interactions and many fewer toys. Could that effect the “IQ tests?”

Studies with rats revealed that the richer the rat’s environment...toys, things to climb on...the more creases in their brains. The more creases, the more intelligent and the better they can solve mazes and other things they put rats through.
