The day before the terror attacks on September 11, 2001, former President Bill Clinton told a group of businessmen in Australia that he "could have killed" the man behind those attacks, Osama bin Laden, in 1998, but he decided against launching a strike out of concern for civilian casualties.
----SNIP---
The 9/11 Commission Report, released in the aftermath of the attacks, documented the proposed December 1998 strike on Kandahar, noting that the Joint Chiefs of Staff advised the president against launching cruise missiles at bin Laden and his associates. Officials were concerned about residual damage, including the roughly 200 to 300 civilians who could have been killed by such a strike.

Somalia tried to turn bin Laden over to the U.S. When Clinton was president, but he declined. Bin Laden was also in Kosovo when Clinton was bombing Serbia on behalf of the Kosavars.
The idea was nixed by his CIA handler and OBL’s money-man, Bush41.

Command Decision, and he wasn’t up to the job...
Good recall; I forgot about that.
“but he decided against launching a strike out of concern for civilian casualties.”
More concern than for US civilian casualties apparently.
“Are there no men left in Washington?”
History does not pivot on just one man. Expecting jihad to dissolve with bin Laden’s death before the 9/11 attack happened is like expecting jihad to dissolve with his death (?) during the Obama years.
This is why we lost Afghanistan, Clinton was soft. And Bush was no different. He refused to take about a funeral filled with terrorists.
All of these people pretend to be against isis and the taliban
Look at their actions.
Clinton, famous for all the wrong reasons, failing to get OBL when he had the chance, another Ralph Branca.
He was heavily occupied trying to figure out what the meaning of “is” is.
Yeah, Slick Willy, you COULD HAVE been presidential but you were too busy chasing skirt in the Oval Office.
I can’t not understand WHY it was considered such a risk or “so brave” to order the assassination of UBL
Even if you miss, it says “I am not going to stop.”
If I were Prez in 2011, after having taken away UBL’s corpse, I would have dropped a couple 2000 lb bombs on the compound, as a big middle finger to those in Pakistan protecting him.
I still don’t believe that was OBL who was killed back
May 2, 2011. It seemed to me that he had been ‘killed’ numerous times ever since that Tora Bora blow out in 2002.
We never even got to see a photo of the corpse before
‘a body’ had been wrapped up, tied down and pushed over the side of a ship in the dark of night.
Wishful thinking at best that had Bin Laden been killed nothing like 9/11 or Afghanistan/Iraq War would have never happened.
“I should have killed bin laden” - Bill Clinton
(not a direct quote, but it should be)
Come again?
Bill Clinton: “I could have killed”
At least 150 kick boxes in agreement.
