Thalidomide?
That was actually the drug that prompted Congress to give the FDA expanded powers to regulate medicines.

Thalidomide was repurposed by Celgene I think for use in MS and maybe other diseases. Somehow they got a patent for just rearranging a couple of molecules on a 40 year old drug and made billions.
