Did they also recommend that drug that was given to pregnant women that ended up causing birth defects

I dont remember the name of the drug....I bet if you try to guess you will think of more than one.

Thalidomide?
That was actually the drug that prompted Congress to give the FDA expanded powers to regulate medicines.

Thalidomide was repurposed by Celgene I think for use in MS and maybe other diseases. Somehow they got a patent for just rearranging a couple of molecules on a 40 year old drug and made billions.
