One of the big COVID-19 mysteries is why some people suffer severe illness, while others experience mild colds. Research about reactive T cells produced during infection with other beta coronaviruses — which could explain a level of mitigating immunity for some people — has appeared in journals. Age certainly seems to be a significant risk factor. However, nothing to date explained all differences or provided any insight into which patients may suffer from severe disease.
Now researchers at the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) have found a specific and sensitive biomarker that may provide more insight:
In a new retrospective study, researchers at the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) discovered a specific and sensitive biomarker in blood samples that predicts which patients will develop COVID-19 symptoms. Their results, published online on July 9 in Scientific Reports, show that reduced levels of a specific lipid, sphingosine, are significantly associated with developing COVID-19 symptoms. Conversely, elevated levels of sphingosine, as well as a protein involved in its production, acid ceramidase (AC), are associated with asymptomatic infections.
Sphingosine is one lipid in the class called sphingolipids. These molecules are important to the integrity of the cell membrane, which viruses must penetrate to hijack the cell processes in order to replicate. Sphingolipids also facilitate communication between cells and regulate inflammation and the immune response to various infections. The MUSC Ogretmen Lab has decades of experience measuring different lipids using a standard scale.
Inflammation is a known feature of severe COVID-19 and mortality, and clinicians believe it is caused by an immune system overreaction in the lungs. This reaction is sometimes referred to as a cytokine storm. The MUSC Lab performed an analysis of patient serum samples from the COVID-19 repository to look specifically for changes in sphingolipid levels.

GREAT info! Thanks!
Indeed. I also read “eggs cheese, meat” and can easily add sweet potatoes. If cheese has it, milk does too—but whole mild, not skimmed.
Interesting. My LDL dropped 40 points in a month when I stopped eating wheat. My doc was thrilled. Now it’s normal. I am not going to change that, at this point, can’t stand the sight of bread.
Thanks for posting this.

Is the ELISA covid test the one that checks for antibodies, or the one that checks T-cells?

Used a nebulizer with Respiratory Relief when I felt tightness in my chest.
Used the Vitamin D Hammer (Google) when I first noticed symptoms.
Today, we also have a stockpile of HCQ and Ivermectin waiting.
BTW, 32 year old son in law got the Coof. Wiped him out. After being with no energy and feeling bad for a week, he got HCQ. Felt normal in less than 12 hours.
“I have, or had anyway, the covid antibodies but was never sick. Found this out after donating blood and verified by 2 different labs. The antibodies were high enough in number that I was asked to donate plasma. My husband had no antibodies. Covid went through our relatively small rural community pretty hard and looks like it’s ramping up again.”
Our previously healthy 55 year old son was recently diagnosed the with crud and was treated as an outpatient and after 10 days in isolation with his family (wife and 20 year old son home from college), he was cleared to go back to work.
His wife and son were just cleared with another negative pcr test, and they are both back to work or whatever with zero symptoms.
Our son with the crud said that he still felt like a pick up truck ran over him instead of the semi truck running over him, feeling, the first few days.
So, why didn’t our son’s wife and 20 year old son get infected by him?
My LDL dropped 40 points in a month when I stopped eating wheat.”
Mine did the same as I basically went on a Keto way of eating.
We’ll still be posting here, if indeed, there is a here here by then.
Off topic, but I loved the old Gertrude Stein quote: “When we got to Oakland, we discovered there was no there there.”
Many thanks! FReepers are the BEST!
“So many similar stories. The unpredictability of this virus is scary. My husband’s uncle died from covid. He was sick for a number of days before going to the doc and died 3 weeks later. His wife stayed negative.”
I feel that I got this crud in mid/late November 2019 before we knew anything about it. Our PPO had me take about every test known to mankind. I had blood in my urine besides what are now known common side effects from loss of my sense of smell and taste. The feeling that I got ran over by an all pro defensive tackle. My sense of balance was basically gone.
Then, I probably passed it on, at or before Christmas to our younger adult son and freshman year college student/grand kid. The grand kid was over it in less than a week and went back to college.
That son lost about 30 pounds, which he didn’t need to lose. He felt miserable after Christmas to the end of January.
It took me a few weeks into February to feel like I was in basic recovery with sense of smell and taste back and feeling balanced when I walked.
That son and I have the same family doc at the PPO, whom we have known for over a decade. When our son asked this doctor if he had the same crud that I had, that doctor said maybe.
Meanwhile in those episodes, our bed partners, our wives may have had the sniffles. With our older son, neither his wife or adult son even had the sniffles.
My wife and her DIL’s tell us that they are superior sex in our lives. :)
“When we got to Oakland, we discovered there was no there there.”
My wife, post pandemic or still in the pandemic, has basically said, she has zero desire to go shopping for anything. Also, zero tourist desires with either of us.
So zero visits are planned to Gay Frisco, Killer Oakland and other so called tourist sites by us.
Yesterday, she hosted her church bible study group as we are back into masks all over California. Zero masks and everyone will be back next week.
Basically, more fake research from the same people who brought us the fake plandemic to begin with.
They are talking about delta variants and “Safe, effective vaccines’ and identifying COvid -19 with a test that doesn’t identify either the virus or the illness in people.
This fake test will allow them to cherry pick who ‘has’ to get the ‘vaccine’. They’l likely develop a test for this chemical that is itself toxic. I hate to see the merry-go-round continuing to spin, and people hopping on, because it sounds so much like science.
Fauci/NIH/CDC bought scientists and labs/universities with federal funds and they crank out bad data about ‘safe’ and ‘effective’ vaccines but create a new fake chemical ‘test’ to explain why their toxic bioweapons don’t work.
I guess the plandemic continues as long as people listen to it.
So here’s the rest of my story...last March while on vacation in Florida while sitting in hot tub we struck up a conversation with another couple. She turned to be a nurse at a hospital somewhere in Florida, I don’t recall where. Naturally her being a nurse the topic turns to covid, she tells us all kinds of horror stories she witnessed and announces that she has been vaccinated and then asks us if we were. I said no, our age group has not come up back in Michigan and so we’ve yet to decide. I then proceed to tell her about my having the antibodies despite never having been sick since the start of covid. Not 2 seconds went by when she asked me if by any chance was I severely sick towards the end of 2019? Yesssss! I was the sickest I have ever been in my life for 3 long weeks! She promptly says “and that’s when you had it” I rarely ever get sick but whatever it was back in 2019 about did me in. So who knows.
“…Their results, published online on July 9 in Scientific Reports, show that reduced levels of a specific lipid, sphingosine, are significantly associated with developing COVID-19 symptoms….”

I wanted to name our first son Sphingosine Atreides but my wife vetoed the idea.
Just kidding but I’m happy to see research such as this.
