The parallel to the Nazis may work as a rhetorical device, but it is really obscene. The comparison begins and ends with the notion that you have to show papers or bear some kind of stigma if you are not vaccinated. The huge difference lies in the two classifications: In the case of the Nazis, the classification was to single out individuals for murder with no redeeming purpose. In the case of the Vaccine, it is not intended to harm anyone, even if it may result in a kind of stigmatization and its purpose is (whether you agree or not) ostensibly for a very positive purpose: to save lives.

This doesn’t mean I approve of vaccine passports or similar schemes. I just think the comparison is way over the top.

I have wondered why the vaccine program in this case has inspired so much anger and resistance when compared with the mandatory vaccine programs I grew up with in the 1960’s. My best guess is that everyone could agree that the vaccines back then were effective and that they were proof against much more dangerous and debilitating illnesses than Covid.

I don’t know what degree of morbidity or mortality is needed before we can all agree when a particular vaccine (or other health measures for that matter) is absolutely necessary as a matter or public policy and mandate.

PS. I also get the idea that the stated purpose for vaccine mandates is/may be a pretext for more government control, but the very idea of the government mandating vaccines is one that was widely accepted in other cases.
