A record-breaking bat that flew more than 1,200 miles (2,018 km) from London to Russia died after being attacked by a cat.
The female Nathusius' pipistrelle bat, the size of a human thumb, was discovered in Russia's Pskov region.
The bat, whose wing had a "London Zoo" marking, was rescued by a bat rehabilitation group but later died.
"Her journey is an exciting scientific finding and another piece in the puzzle of bat migration. The movements of Nathusius' pipistrelles around the UK and between the UK and the continent remain largely mysterious."
This record is topped by only one other known bat journey in Europe - that of a Nathusius' pipistrelle that migrated from Latvia to Spain in 2019, a record-setting 1,382 miles (2,224km).

Putin should feed his cats.
No record of bats migrating that distance.
Nobody ever said life was fair. Even for bats.
Cat: “I got yer broken record right here!”
Let that be a lesson to everyone, leave records alone! Breaking them is too dangerous!
In this article from the UK, several are listed which traveled more than 1,400 km, or 870 miles.
Yet another reason to hate cats.
This is why I won’t run 1200 miles. I don’t want to too tired to fight off a cat.
The cat lured the bat to Russia by posing as a female bat and saying all the things the bat wanted to hear.
Did the bat have the Rona?
I didn’t see Wuhan on the flight plan.

The movie The Bat. 1959.
Good stuff.
Cats rule. Bats drool.
Bat lives matter.
The Black Cat. 1934.
Not bad. :-)
Birds and even fish can get caught up in wind spouts and thunderstorms and get carried thousands of miles.
Why would they migrate latitudinally, anyway?

But all I could find for cats to do in Pskov is this cafe:
That’s my working hypothesis. It flew really high and the earth rotated under it. So the distance would need to be measured East to west.
