Charlie Watts, the Rolling Stones’ drummer since the group’s inception in 1962, is “unlikely to be available” for the group’s rescheduled U.S. tour this fall. Veteran drummer Steve Jordan, who has worked extensively with Stones co-founder Keith Richards, will fill in.
Watts, who turned 80 in June, recently underwent a “completely successful” medical procedure, according to a statement from the group.

One drummer who is still going is Cesar Zuiderwijk, of Golden Earring, who is well in his 70s now. They had to call it quits this year because the guitarist got ALS, but he’s in another band now. If you never have seen him, he’s one of the best rock drummers out there.
He’s a seasoned drummer; I’m sure he’d know how to augment his playing;
They could still suspend him in a wheelchair above the crowd.
My brother-in-law has been an active drummer in local bands for over 30 years and has torn rotator cuffs a couple times.
and just when I was sure
that his teachings were pure
he drowned himself in the pool
his body is gone
but back here on the lawn
his spirit, continues to drool..

I paid a lot of money to see them on their Final Tour ..... in 1990.
I would put a 440 with a six-pack on top into a Mustang just to piss off the purists.
Oh, yeah, I’ve seen a few of his videos, and you’re right, he’s a woefully underrated drummer. Used to do drum solos during GE concerts and finish them off by jumping over his drum kit, IIRC.
I too paid a lot of money $11 IIRC to see the Stones last tour in 1978 in Oakland...
Yea, that Iron Lung just won’t look right on stage.
I always knew Charlie would never last in the music business. /s
He gave it a go but he just couldn’t cut it....
Watts was ready to quit 20 years ago. He isn’t a big fan of rock and had enough money to last for a lifetime. He said Richards always kept bullying him into going back on tour.
Lol..we have to worry about what kind of world we are going to leave to Keith richards
Watt????
Well, there’s a time and season, for all things.
He deserves to give those sticks a rest.
Thanks for posting.
:-(
I agree no disrespect to Ringo but I don’t picture him as Stone.
