The golf course crime spree is relieving men of their expensive Rolexes.
A pair of female thieves posing as reps for a charity have been prowling upscale golf courses in southern England, swiping Rolexes from the wrists of wealthy older men.
Police say the thieves are dark-haired women in their 20s or 30s with "Eastern European accents" who have reportedly robbed 14 golfers at posh UK golf courses.
This has nothing to do with golf or watches...but you had to go and mention Benny Hill.
Why wear a watch while playing golf??? It’s in the way...Lock it in your car....
Back in the ‘70’s, a fellow worker was showing off his new $240 Seiko (high price back then)...
I asked him what time is it????
He looked at his watch and said “10:20”...
I looked at my watch and said, “Funny...That’s exactly what my $10 Timex says...”
People do not wear Rolex watches primarily to tell time, just like ladies do not wear Hermes (or whatever that make is) to carry their coins.
I have one of these from 50 years ago that I just got a OEM replacement strap for, I see it listed for much more than was paid: I guess I better take care of it.

Thanks for the smiles. Boy, you and Calvin and Hobbes on the same page. Needed the wit. Be nifty if FR would ask poster for one day a month to post only good news stories and humor. So over the COVID fear mongering. Nice to see the gems pop up on pages full of horse apples.

??? My whole circle of Ruckers, tactical people, former military, survivalists, etc. ALL wear watches. Relying on a tracking device such as your iPhone is a very big mistake.
I remember a buddy of mine came home from a business trip to New Orleans claiming somebody robbed him outside a bar and took his Rolex. I just looked at him and asked, “Got rolled by a hooker did ya?” (He was that type).
My dad bought his Rolex for about $200 at the PX in Yokohama back in ‘58 or ‘59...
My cell phone has a clock. There is one in the dashboard of my pick up truck. There is one on my computer. There is one on the phone on my desk in my office. There is a clock on the wall in front of me.
At home there is a clock on the cable box under the TV. Another one on the microwave.
I have two watches in the top drawer of my dresser. A Seiko and another one. I have not worn either for over 10 years.
Rolex , don’t they self destruct if it’s not touching it’s owner ,LOL
Inflation Calculator:If in 1959 I purchased an item for $200.00
then in 2021 that same item would cost:
$1,867.33
Cumulative rate of inflation: 833.7%
$1,800 for a basic Rolex sounds about right.
Lol! I was waiting for that story.
Five times?
Phones are like the Shop Smith, all of the eggs in one basket.
My watch doesn't need to be recharged every two or three days. My calculator can handle negative exponents. It goes on and on.
I think I just found a true friend! You and I think quite a lot alike. How refreshing!
So, while deployed to an island paradise, I was sitting at my desk putting a new fiber watch band on an old TIMEX. Had done it many times, had the right tools, 10 seconds of work.
Coworker watched me do it and asked if I could help him put a fiber band on his watch. He felt the metal band currently on there would have problems in the humid environment. Took his watch and band, did the change with no problems, handed it back.
He looked sheepish and asked if I could change his other watch also, to which I agreed. He pulls out a box, delicately removes the watch and hands it to me. I, having absolutely no knowledge of watches, ask how expensive this is, to which he replies, $5000.00. I demur and say I would not feel comfortable working on something that expensive, and he replies that the other cost just as much.
I was working on two Rolexes with metal implements which could have scratched the backplate very seriously. Too nervous to change the second one.
I carry a 1924 Elgin pocket watch and wear suspenders, so I’ve got that going for me.
