The White House said Monday that it was unable to find a legal means to extend the eviction moratorium, despite the fact that millions of Americans could soon lose their homes even as the Delta variant of COVID-19 continues to spread.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has “been unable to find legal authority for a new, targeted eviction moratorium,” White House press secretary Jen Psaki said in a statement. “Our team is redoubling efforts to identify all available legal authorities to provide necessary protections.”
Citing a Supreme Court decision issued in late June, the White House said it was unable to unilaterally extend the moratorium for evictions. Late last week, Psaki issued a statement pressuring Congress to act, but the House went into recess before a vote could be held. Were it to pass the House, it is unclear if an extension of the moratorium would be able to pass the Senate.

While billions of dollars in rental aid was allocated through federal pandemic relief plans, some states - including those with both Democratic and Republican leadership - have been slow to distribute it. To date, only about $3 billion of the $47 billion Emergency Rental Assistance program has been used. With landlords unable to collect rent, there is a domino effect that can have an impact on the larger housing market when regular payments aren’t made to landlords and mortgage holders.
In a letter to colleagues released Monday, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi encouraged Democratic members to work in their districts to get the funds distributed. On Friday, however, Pelosi told reporters that “we only learned of [the end of the eviction moratorium] yesterday.”
In a Sunday interview with CNN, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., said Democrats shared the blame for the expiration of the moratorium.

I am a divorced 64 year old who raised 4 children. In most cases with no child support. I went to school and now make 6 figures. I worked hard and have my home With a Mortgage and 1 rental. I got lucky. My tenant paid me on time and in full. I have not raised his rent in 3.5 years. Some of us “landlords” depend on that money.
It is not their homes and how many property owners are not going to be able to continue without rental income? The Marxists have no concern about their fate other than to destroy them.

Never invent a good crisis and let it go to waste. That’s a corollary to “never let a good crisis go to waste”, since this we had a plandemic not a pandemic. So how does this relate to rent moratoriums and landlords unable to get Emergency Rental Assistance? Well, follow the money or lack there of. Small landlords with only a few properties are the hardest hit. That’s just like every other small business in America (and the world for that matter). So who is making a killing. It’s the Big Banks and real estate investment trusts (REITs). The small guys don’t have rental income, so they have to sell out. Guess who has been accumulating properties: the big guys. And just in the nick of time, there is no more moratorium. Now the big guys can get paid.

What is the legal basis for the moratorium? Something in that unchangeable legal basis must dictate that it ends on a certain date.
It is comforting that the White House is working night and day to figure out a way to screw mom and pop landlords out of their only source of income. This is taking private property without just compensation in violation of the 5th Amendment.
The government is enemy of the people and friend of the illegal immigrant, criminal, layabout, bum, user and taker.
Wouldn’t we as conservatives who presumably hold private property rights sacrosanct want the moratorium to end as well?
