It was that way (possibly worse) at the Founding, but the Founders didn't see fit to enumerate a Congressional power to do something.
The most liberty-embracing way to combat misinformation, is vigilance and information. There is no shortage of websites with data etc for the curious amongst us to do their homework.
Is fundamental research a pain? You bet. So is tyranny. I can address the former with a Duck Duck Go search. The latter? Well, that's complicated...

Something IS being done, it's called the free market and buyer beware. I trust my own judgement on supplements over Dicky Durbin's or the AMA which now wants to eliminate genders on birth certificates.

Think about it. The FDV already has authority to ban harmful quack compounds. This would keep anyone from purchasing any compound or vitamin that many are using to fortify themselves against COVID-19.
They said it would be slipped into other legislation so that it could be passed before anyone of us would know it.

Almost the whole medical system in the US is a scam. Except for exotic cancer treatments, outcomes are as good or better in Europe than here.
I had to go to an ER in Warsaw last week. Brand new, saw a doctor in 15 minutes. The visit, plus blood work and 1.5 liters of IV fluids and IV pain killers was less than $200.
