Anybody know? We already know what the hurricane names will be for this year. What about the variants?
I see news about the Lambda variant. Where did it get that name? What if the variant is discovered by somebody in the US while at the same time the same variant is discovered by somebody else in Japan. What prevents the variant from having two different names?
In the CCP's Wuhan bioweapon lab there are vials labeled COVID-19-A, COVID-19-B, COVID-19-C, COVID-19-D, etc. The variants already exist, just a matter to turning it lose.
So far, they’re all Greek letters.

For Covid, I’d be willing to go with FAUXCY I, Fauxcy II, Fauxcy III, etc....
Yes, but who decided to call this variant Delta and that variant Lambda? What happened to the letters between D and L?
If and when the whole story of this is told, I think you are going to have to give up this “CCP virus” nonsense.
The humanized mice, the spike proteins designed to adhere to those lungs, and the preliminary sequencing of the bat CoV backbone are all USA products.
I think the Lambda is the lesbian variant ... the order doesn’t follow any alphabetic sequence ...
Not sure, but one guess might be that the variants in between were identified, but never took off and became well know.
Not an expert, just a guess, and probably wrong.
Traditionally, going back to the beginning, something is named after it’s observed.
It seems the “delta” variant has never been observed.
Same with the “lambda.”
Thank God we haven’t got one Iota yet.
They aren’t actually testing all patients for these variants so it’s all a wild arsed guess anyhow.
If I discover a new variant, I’m going to name it ‘Fnu Lnu’.
