Kroger and Walmart, two of the nation's biggest retailing chains, are changing their mask policies as the nation contends with less-vaccinated regions getting hit by high infection rates due to the Delta variant.
Kroger is now "strongly" encouraging all individuals, including those who are vaccinated, to wear a mask when in its stores and facilities, the Cincinnati, Ohio-based supermarket operator said Friday, citing updated recommendations from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Previously, Kroger had required unvaccinated employees wear masks and requested that unvaccinated shoppers do the same.
"We will continue to abide by all state and local mandates and encourage all Americans to get vaccinated, including our associates," the company said in an emailed statement. Kroger, the nation's largest grocer, operates nearly 2,800 stores in 35 states.
Bentonville, Arkansas-based Walmart said it will require all its workers — including vaccinated ones — to wear masks in areas with high infection rates of COVID-19. The country's largest retailer also is encouraging its customers to wear masks in stores in areas with high infection rates from the Delta variant of the coronavirus, and will be adding back signs at entrances announcing its latest policies, according to a memo supplied by Walmart that was sent to its employees Friday.
Walmart will also bring back its "health ambassadors" who will be positioned at the entrances and hand out masks to customers.

On Friday, Walmart said it will require that all home office workers as well as management-level staff members who travel within the U.S. be vaccinated against COVID-19 by October 4 as part of a series of sweeping measures it announced to help curb the spread of the virus and drive more of its workers to get the shot in the arm.
The vaccine mandate excludes frontline workers, who the company says have a lower vaccination rate than management. But it’s hoping that management will serve as an inspiration for its workers.
Strongly encourage? That’ll work.
Delta Variant should be called the Mid-Term Variant.
Hat tip to Right Brother.
less-vaccinated regions less-vaccinated regions less-vaccinated regions BLAH BLAH BLAH
Safer would be deny entrance to the vaxed.
This shit is getting to be “Mark of the Beast” level madness.
“...so that no one may buy or sell, except he who has the mark or the name of the beast or the number of his name.”
Before anyone gets too literal, please remember the images of the Angels in Revelations...
Shouldn’t be hard to quit a Walmart job, rather than receive a lethal injection.
B.S. Wally doesn't dare mandate it for the rank and file given the fact that a sizeable proportion of those employees are likely people if color.
Would you care for a dehumanizing, bacteria trap?
As people like me said at the very beginning, all the retail food and other CEOs care about is to avoid lawsuits. “Liability” is the new fear and they really don’t give a (censored) about our health or safety. Same with “defensive medicine” doctors and clinics.
I really hated those stupid floor vinyl One Way signs at Kroger. I’m sure I’m not the only one.
I was just in two Reno Walmart and a lot of customers were not wearing masks, including me. No one bugged me at all.
I can’t wait for some moron in one of those stores to ‘strongly encourage’ me to wear a mask so i can tell them to go piss up a rope... Then walk out leaving my cart behind.
Can anyone point to one state in the US in which fatalities due to COVID are increasing?
The arrows didn't last long at the local walmart here because no one paid attention to them. Same with mask required signs and roped of entrance paths. All ended late last Spring due to our non conformance. Workers taking smoke breaks out front, masks pulled down and talking with maskless locals they know and well within 6 feet. I can only imagine a district manager showing up and just shaking their head. LOL
Revelation.
Both the Walmarts closest to my home (the big one selling everything and a Neighborhood WalMart that is mainly groceries) have both gone to 100% self checkout which I can’t stand and now they want me to wear a mask again too? Piss on them!
Prove me wrong.
Not here. People don’t play that here. Only the liquor store can rule our lives like that.
