WASHINGTON, Monday, July 29.
Some one, evidently for the purpose of puffing the Sanitary Committee at the expense of the Medical Bureau of the Government, has so far worked upon your humane feelings as to arouse your needless indignation, in an article on Saturday last, against an innocent party. The officers of the Medical Bureau don't furnish ice for the hospitals, and have no power to do so. Ice is furnished from what is called a hospital fund, and every military hospital has such a fund. At every hospital under Government, ice has been given to the patients for the last two months and more. At the hospital at Georgetown, over one hundred and sixty pounds are purchased daily. As to the statement that the wounded soldiers were suffered to lay sweltering in their bloody garments, there is not a word of truth in it. The Government officials were particularly attentive to the suffering men, and every man whom I saw -- and I saw two hospitals full on Tuesday last -- had his clothes removed, clean linen on, and his wounds dressed. I know that you like to give those who have worked hard and faithfully their just due.
The organization of the Army of the Potomac is going on with vigor and success. In point of efficiency, the troops will in the course of this week be in as good condition as previous to the battle of Sunday.
The Navy Department is showing signs of unusual activity. Vessels are being purchased and fitted up, giving hopes of a more effectual blockade of the rebel ports than heretofore.
The fortifications on the Virginia side are being mounted with a large number of the heaviest guns used in the service.

My favorite line (of the limited bits I’ve read): “The hotels again are almost cleared of politicians - the most striking indication I have seen of danger to the Capitol”. They probably weren’t named Pelosi and Schumer, but apparently they were pretty much as corrupt and gutless.
