Electric rates are about 25 cents per kilowatt hour in Germany and about 10 cents per kilowatt hour in much of the US.

Price is proportional to total energy consumption. To find out where Germany is polluting 2.5 times as much per kwh, simply follow the money, all the way to China.

An economy is 100% powered by energy. When governments force the cost of energy higher, they also force their economy lower. Despite high IQs and a hard work ethic, Germany has a lower standard of living than the USA.

Many decades ago Communist China tried something called the Great Leap Forward:

The wind farms I am not so sure of, lots of huge costs up front not to mention ugly and bird killers. Solar (in California) is good to offset the Air Conditioning in the summer but that is about it.
Am in Costa Rica and one AirBnB had only solar heating for the water and the shower got cold after 3-4 minutes.

“Germany has a lower standard of living than the USA.”

Imagine if cars lasted a lifetime, houses never needed repair and by taking a teaspoon a day of cheap formula, one never got sick or demented.

The GDP would be much lower, but the standard of living much higher.

Israel and China are heavily into solar hot water.

But, but what about all those plastic water bottles?

Germany has smaller homes, smaller cars and lower GDP per capita. They pay triple what we do for electricity.

That's a lower standard of living, right?

One of the main problems evidenced in the TX blackout was the reliance on JUST IN TIME natural gas delivery to the power plants.

Unlike coal where the plant may have enough literally on the ground to run the plant for a couple weeks the natural gas plants had ZERO backup storage at their facilities.
So, when the valves froze on the pipeline, they ran out of gas.

Many decades ago Communist China tried something called the Great Leap Forward:

Recall how successful their effort was to start an industrial revolution by melting down metal items to get the raw materials.

They also lost gas compressor stations that had been converted from natural gas-fueled engines to electric motors for regulatory reasons. That’s a problem when the grid goes down.

There were a lot of issues for sure, no single one cause.

As long as I don’t have to pay one damned dime on such a load, go for it. This will require enormous gov’mt oversight — and skimming. Doomed to failure. I live in such a regime’ in CaCaLand, nothing works.

Yah, all such estimates of goal reaching need loads of follow-up questions. How long? What was load? What was peak and avg price? Was this a “one trick pony” or can you repeat?

I hope you’re being sarcastic. Because otherwise, that is one of the most ignorant things I have ever seen written on this site.
