Thought some of you would find this funny.
I got a contact from my editors at Sentinel that they had an anonymous group interested in booking me to speak. What were my fees, remote & in person.
I sent back a number for remote: for in-person, $3k more + expenses; for in-person in NY, CA, or IL, $8k more + expenses.
Turned out it was a group in a blue city, a panel "discussion" and I was warned about civility, blah, blah. So I didn't want to go.
He said, "We are going to pay you more than that [my fee]" but it involved a lot of circulating with students, extra-curricular. I was getting less happy by the minute. It was in Feb. 22. Snow, ice, delays.
I wrote, "Your goofball governor will probably have you locked down again." He said, "Ok, never mind." :)
Yeah, but understand, I HATE flying now. It used to be kinda fun. Now you’re in a mask for four hours. No food, only pretzels. Wait on bags. Get transportation. Wait in a hotel line. It’s just a pain.
In person rates are always higher in expensive locales, and cities with a City Tax rate for “high wage earners”.
Way too many tax issues for the self employed to make business in NYC, Chicago, Boston or most anyplace in CA worth it to do business there.
And your rates look very legit compared to what my clients charged ...
