What happened to the days of the professor holding the power of career life or death over the students?Those days are long gone!
Now the professors mostly literally cower in fear of their students. It all started going downhill in the 1960s when students realized they could occupy the dean's office and get the faculty to do their bidding.
There are a few exceptions though

This sort of thing has been going on for a loooooong time in med schools. I saw it personally in the 70s. Not this exact “protest” but the issues of the day back then. Med students are some of the most self-important people you’ll ever see.
