PITTSBURGH — Pittsburgh police responded to the Burger King in the Pittsburgh’s South Side Sunday night, saying workers allegedly walked out on the job.
Police responded to the restaurant on East Carson Street and discovered it was unlocked with no employees inside. A city spokesperson says it appears the employees walked off the job. Police stayed until they could get ahold of someone to secure the building.
However, Burger King employees reported that they were just too short staffed to operate so the manager closed up early... And forgot to lock the door behind him.

No bother. I'm sure the owner operators must be aware that they're not selling any milkshakes and are just as frustrated with their lazy employees as I am.
I went to an Arby’s a few days ago, and there was a hand-written note on the door saying the lobby was closed because of inadequate staffing. Everywhere I go, I see “Now Hiring” signs, but young people these days seem to think they are too good to work at these jobs.
It's not just you. McDonalds' ice cream machines are known as the least reliable mechanical devices on the planet.
Can't wait, I might actually start going again when that happens. Most fast food places are disgusting and dirty, with the employees looking like they're on a prison work release program...especially in major cities. I'd like my order without a side of hepatitis please.
In the olden days this was considered “entry level” work. After learning how to work they eventually moved on to better jobs.
It’s called “Stimulus Checks” for the unemployed. it’s neverending, evidently. They make more money not working than working.
Me too. Years ago, I did call a Pizza Hut around 7PM trying to order a pizza. It rang and rang and rang but no answer. I redialed to make sure I had called the right number and the same thing happened. So I called the cops (not 911) and advised them to run a patrol car by there and the cop said, "Yes, we'd better". I never did hear any more so I guess it was OK.
Yet the article you linked said the real reason is that they take three hours to clean each night.
I don't know about the machines today but the ones we used back in the 1980s worked just fine.

We’ve had more than one robbery/murder that way in the Nashville area.
In 1997, a Captain D’s had 2 employees killed in the cooler and a McDonald’s had 3 employees killed in the storeroom.
In 2000, a Captain D’s had 2 employees killed in the cooler and another employee found dead in the parking lot.
I’m sure there have been more, but back in the day it was unusual so sticks in the mind.
When I bartended long, long ago I hated making pina coladas and other frozen drinks because we had only one blender and I was responsible for washing all the glassware used in the restaurant and bar as well as cleaning my busy bar. I always said the blender was broken. But, I made a fantastic Long Island Iced Tea and sold that instead. Same money, less mess.

Actually Ray Kroc didn’t start it. He was indeed selling multi shake blenders to restaurants and stumbled upon the original McDonalds which had a very simple menu, efficiently designed kitchen and essentially zero service staff other than the counter service. He bought into it (I think he bought the Franchise rights).
I got a buddy who works at a large eatery. Probably 100 tables. They only have 2 milk shake machines and their worst nightmare is when a table of 4 or 6 come in and each order different flavors. Even if they all ordered vanilla, the machines can’t make 2 servings at a time. And the servers have to make their own, just like they have to pour any other liquids (other than alcohol). They hate to serve the table separately but if they don’t do that, then the first batch of shakes melt before the second ones are ready to go out.

Happened to me at a Jack-in-the-Box once.
Late at night, long line at the drivethru. Get to the window, the poor guy says, “I’m sorry, I’m the only one here, nobody else showed up for their shift. Have a coke on me.”
I hope he became a regional manager, because he deserved it...
RAISE the F’IN wage and people will work.
This surplus of fast food locations is caused by a massive subsidizing of labor via both legal and illegal immigration since the 1970’s.
Every f’in business now thinks they are entitled to only pay very low wages to employees and now they have a NON-VIABLE business and are trying to keep it up and running in a labor market that is NOT viable for their business model.
CLOSE these places DOWN. They NEED to go out of business and free up labor and investment capital where it is much more needed.
Yeah I’m sure thats really difficult to program.
