A man washed ashore in a cylindrical floating contraption on Saturday after attempting to float all the way to New York. He was not injured.
The man told officials he came back to shore after having problems with his vessel.
The Flagler County Sheriff’s Office reported that the man left St. Augustine in the vessel with the goal of reaching New York.

His fabricating skills look pretty good, his seamanship skills on the other hand suck.

We read “Kon Tiki” in junior high school around 1963. I still remember it was a great adventure story. I’ve been meaning to re-read it someday. I better get on that as my remaining days are getting fewer.

Not exactly. He ended up a lot higher than he expected.
Didn’t he have a BB gun to pop a balloon or two if he got to high?

The guy I remembered had a pellet gun and 5 or 7 weather balloons. His chair was tied by a rope to the bumper of a car. He untied the rope and shot up higher than he thought he would go so he became too scared to shoot out any of the balloons. A passenger jet reported him to the LAX and a helicopter rescued him over the ocean.

No time right now to look it up but I recall an account of somebody using a contraption that looked identical to Fla. Man’s to roll across Lake Erie about a hundred years ago.
It worked well for the first 30 miles or so. They found the body a few days later, still in the contraption.
