Chantix is very expensive and not covered by most insurance plans. Many of my patients did not tolerate it due to its psychological effects. Bupropion is better tolerated, much less expensive, and works just as well IMHO. Of course, if you really WANT to quit, just do it. People who do it that way usually succeed and don’t start again.

Several years ago I knew a very talented and nice songwriter/musician. He took Chantix and lost it one night. He was yelling and beating on a neighbor’s door. The neighbor was frightened and fired a ‘warning shot’ high through the door, thinking it would go over his head and scare the guy away. Unfortunately the guy was something like 6’ 5” and the shot hit him right in the head. Tragic loss.
