Shooting at Pat’s Steaks, allegedly over football, leaves one man dead(Eagles, Giants fans)

One man is dead after an overnight shooting at the popular Pat’s King of Steaks in South Philadelphia.

Police said the shooting happened around 1 a.m. Thursday after two men got into an argument while waiting in line for food at 9th and Wharton Streets. According to Pat’s general manager Tom Francano, the two men were fighting in part about football — one was an Eagles fan, and one was a New York fan.

According to other reports an Eagles fan with "red hair" shot the Giants fan.

Years ago on a day trip to Philly my cousin, her husband and I stopped at Pat's. The hubby and I had luscious Pat's steaks while the cousin stayed in the car.

I've looked for historical parallels. The closest I have come is to the Nika Riots in 532AD, which nearly brought down the Byzantine Empire. Social, economic and political factions all tended to identify themselves in various chariot teams which competed in the Hippodrome. When one such sports contest got out of hand, it started a political uprising.
