Giannis Antetokounmpo has led the Milwaukee Bucks to their first NBA championship in 50 years, closing out the Phoenix Suns in the Finals on Tuesday night, 105-98.
Antetokounmpo scored 50 points, grabbed 14 rebounds, recorded five blocks and dished out two assists in the win. He is the first player since Shaquille O’Neal to record 40 points, 10 rebounds and five blocks in any playoff game, according to ESPN Stats & Info. O’Neal did it in 2001.
He's also the first player to have a 50-10-5 stat line since blocks were first tracked in the 1973-74 season.

I assume then, that plenty of white useful idiots are still giving money to the racist nba.
Memories of Oscar Robertson and Bobby Dandridge. Don’t think I’ve even watched a full game of pro basketball since then....
The only Bassetball related watching I do is to watch news reports with the sound turned down and try to guess if the riot I’m watching is the losing or winning team’s fans.
Big Larry Bird and Jordan fan here
Too bad this current group of talent will not reach a broad audience.
They are playing in a racist, bigoted, woke, league that the majority will not watch
Wow. I didn't know the NBA would sell advertising time to the NFL during its playoff games.
Actually having more foreign players may help the NBA be less woke.
I think we’re about to see a huge influx of foreign NBA players, to the point that in a few years, less than half of NBA players will be Americans.
I caught a few minutes of a game in an earlier serious, I think I saw Giannis actually airball a free throw.
Jordan-era Bulls or the Lakers “showtime” teams would have destroyed these guys.
Is this that sport where a bunch of black pituitary cases bounce a ball up and down a wooden court?
There were NBA games?
Who knew?
He was far too brutally honest for that.
I stopped watching basketball as a sport around 1990 or so, but I watched a lot of it in the late 70's on. I have watched some videos about Larry Bird, and I remember the sentiment of a lot of them (and one actually said it) was that "Bird was the baddest man on the court" in those days.
I can't remember who it was who said that. There are a lot of them, many related in this video: Larry Bird would fight, talk trash, tell you where he would make his shot, and win against you
Isaiah Thomas once said "If you put all of us in a room, Magic, Jordan, myself, and Bird, Bird would probably be the guy who walked out of the room at the end of the day..."
Xavier McDaniel related this one:
Bird said to me, I'm gonna get the ball...I said 'I know, I'm gonna be waitin'...he said, 'I'm gonna get it right here, I'm gonna shoot it right in your face'...he came out right there at that exact spot and shot it right in my face with two seconds left. He said 'I told you I was gonna do it. I didn't mean to leave two seconds on the clock. I meant to shoot it with zero seconds on the clock.'
I liked this anecdote:
"...Imagine being the player that was 40-pieced by Larry Bird. That may seem common, but now imagine being the player that was 40-pieced by Larry Bird who was playing left-handed. That’s right, Bird did that once, as Bill Walton once recalled:
"...At the end of one of the trips, he had accomplished every goal. We hadn’t lost a game on the trip and Larry told all of us players and the media too — we were all standing around waiting to leave — he said, “Tomorrow night’s the last game of the trip, I’m going to play this one left-handed, at least through three quarters”.
Jerome Kersey faced the brunt of this stone-cold confidence in the Celtics’ next game vs. the Trail Blazers. The Valentine’s Day matchup saw Larry Legend put up a 47-point triple-double, and he dropped 20 of those with his left hand.
After the game, when asked by a reporter why he used his left hand to score, he famously said: “I’m saving my right hand for the Lakers.”
I don't care for trash talk in sports, never have, but...damn. Not only was Bird one of the giants of that heinous art, he backed it up, and was memorable, cutting, and hilarious in his quotes!
That is a formula for rigging.
NBA... Is that the organization where poor oppressed persons of color are forced to chase a ball around and receive millions of dollars for doing so?
Don’t forget The Electric Eye, Johnny Mac and the fabulous Eddie Doucette!
Actually it’s pretty cool that Gianis won. For years now the scuttle around the NBA is that he should leave the Bucks and join one of the super teams so he can finally get a championship. But he like Milwaukee and the Bucks. So he stayed. And now he got his championship.
Since 2000 or so, professional sports have all become pre-arranged theater - very WWE-like, but without the humor.
I greatly regret all the time I wasted in life watching them.
“And now he got his championship.”
My comment was about the hypocritical sports media, not about the ‘beloved’ foreigner. The camera was on him when he was not even in the game! The constant, not-stop praising of him made me sick to my stomach!
It’s actually pretty standard to show the aging veteran (which Giannis isn’t quite, but close) about to win his first championship even when they’re not in the game. I remember when Ray Bourque was about to win The Cup they kept showing him on the bench. Especially if the score isn’t that close, the emotional story is the more interesting one. And frankly he deserves praising. Good guy, loyal, never been in a scandal, bucked the trend of running to a super team. It’s a good story, and a sad state in your head that it would make you sick.
I can only repeat:
My post was not about him, even though the nba can no longer be called the national basketball association! The association is hypocritical, too, in that they should change the name to the International basketball association because they have let foreigners play on usa soil! My post was about the hypocritical sports media!
I find that YOUR mind is not very patriotic, in that you would praise a foreigner. He is African-Greek. Try to remember that. My guess is that he returns to Greece in the off-season, spends his American dollars in Greece and laughs at American-suckers!
Your post is about whining. It’s not a hypocritical media. They’ve been covering guys winning championships like this as long as I can remember. So the National Hockey League should change their name too? They got a lot more international players than the NBA? There’s foreign players in the both the American and National Leagues too, you want them to change their names?
What’s wrong with praising a foreigner? Now you’re getting into even dumber whine territory. He’s a good guy. Where he was born doesn’t change that.
He might go home in the off season. So what. The NBA season from training camp through finals runs close to 10 months. One way or the other other he’s spending most of his money where he lives. Milwaukee.
Simple fact is you’re just a whiner getting his panties in a twist for no good reason. You’re pathetic.
