Everything Fauci says is calculated to protect himself from any possible repurcussions. Actual scientific studies have shown the efficacy of masks to be negligible. On the order of a few percent difference from no mask at all. Not surprising as the average paper or cloth mask is not going to filter a virus smaller than the wavelength of visible light (9 to 12 nm). Probably even less effective at filtering the manufactured spike proteins which are sub-component of the virus.
