The LAPD is in final negotiations on a contract to transport nuclear weapons between bases in Southern California.
...but only the weapons needing final disposal.

The officers estimated they were putting in 16.5 pounds of explosives into the vessel, which is designed to take a maximum capacity for a one-time detonation of 25 pounds, LAPD Chief Michel Moore said in a news conference Monday.
But investigators later weighed the remains calculated that just over 42 pounds of net explosive weight was in the vessel...

So is it New Math, or the Metric System.

When there’s a maximum weight capacity, wouldn’t you think they’d at least have a freggin’ scale handy? Apparently the bomb-squadders involved have lost their jobs, but perhaps getting fired will save their lives, because they clearly aren’t competent to handle explosives.

I’m not buying it. Is the protocol to detonate in the box on a freaking neighborhood street?!

Growing up in SoCal in the 50s the attitude was that fireworks were the devil’s handiwork. We were allowed only ‘safe and sane’ fireworks. Of course people would bring back firecrackers—firecrackers! from Mexico. Even shooting fireworks into the ocean from the beach was a big no no.
When I moved to MO, I couldn’t believe that things like Roman candles, bottle rockets were freely available.
