Officer Ronald Kennedy attended a scene on Lenox Avenue and 125th Street in Harlem, where a man had been stabbed in the chest. Kennedy immediately asked someone nearby to get a bag of potato chips and then some tape, and fashioned a covering for the wound ahead of paramedics’ arrival.

The clip posted by Harrison included a note at the end saying a doctor who treated the victim had said Kennedy’s actions saved the man’s life.

Most astonishing he was allowed to render the assistance and not harassed by the local onlookers. Doubt this happens very often these days on urban American streets.

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

People, in general, are mostly reluctant to step in and render emergency medical aid - #1 they don’t know what to do and #2 do not want to interact with strangers. For those with medical training (like this cop who probably had EMT training or was a vet with training for dealing with wounds in the field of battle), they are more willing to step in - in fact, as an ex-EMT with knowledge to potentially save a life & in the absence of anyone else capable of dealing with the situation, I would feel morally obligated to render aid.

Bystanders could probably see the sucking chest wound which is a terrible sight for “regular” folks ..... I suspect they were grateful for that cop.

Now, if the cop had been trying to arrest the guy, all bets are off.

Was he wearing the ribbon?
Eh, Dr. VanNostros? Did he airbrush out the mole?

Sucking chest wounds are a drag man.

I would never suck a chest wound. Just saying.

We’re told cops are the bad guys and white cops are the worst.

Maybe those in the crowd have a change of heart.

I accidentally stabbed myself in the arm nice and deep about 10 days ago. Cleaned it out with peroxide and used superglue to close it. Would have been at least 4-5 stitches had I gone to a doc-in-a-box.

Hence the new tagline.

Yes, I remember most of my Combat Lifesaver training. The sucking chest wound was always a block of instruction that I thought about.

Is the bag unopened?

Would you mind filling in a few details?

Might come in handy someday.

lucky it was a new bag of potato chips.
The old bags had too many chips to work correctly.

I was an EMT in college (18-22) and I still carry a kit in my car just in case. I’m 63 now.
