Top health expert says vaccinated people are spreading delta variant: Not testing vaccinated people may be overlooking some transmission

Story at a glance
- Christopher Murray said that vaccinated individuals may be contributing to the spread of COVID-19.
- As the delta variant becomes the most dominant strain, Murray posits that not testing vaccinated individuals may overlook possible transmission points.
- New data suggests that the delta variant may also be more resilient to the Pfizer vaccine.
As some states report marked upticks in COVID-19 infections while the delta variant becomes the most common strain in the U.S., public health experts are encouraging further vaccinations to help curb transmission.
Some experts, however, warn that vaccinated individuals may still be capable of contracting and transmitting COVID-19.
Speaking to Insider, Christopher Murray, the director of the Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation, said that not testing vaccinated people — as the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends — may be overlooking some transmission.
"We actually have states where hospitalizations are going up more than cases," Murray said, adding that "we're probably missing a bunch of transmission in vaccinated individuals."
National data notes that more than 30 states continue to see rises in the number of COVID-19 infections. Experts attribute this to gaps in vaccinations and the rise of the contagious delta variant.
While vaccines are beneficial in preventing severe infections, contracting the virus and transmitting COVID-19, vaccinated individuals are never completely protected against COVID-19. Breakthrough infections are possible, and the delta infectivity rate is still very high.
"That's the scary part," said Hugh Cassiere, director of critical care services at the Sandra Atlas Bass Heart Hospital at North Shore University Hospital, on Long Island, New York, to NBC. "Delta has such a high infectivity rate."
Other data emerging from Israel suggest that the Pfizer vaccine is less effective against infections caused by the delta variant, which may explain the uptick in U.S. infection despite widespread vaccinations.

As for all this “shedding” silliness, it’s just more nonsense to disregard.

What is a denier?

"Almost 50% of the cases in Israel are in vaccinated people." True.
About 80% of Israelis of age 16 and above have received two doses of the vaccine that was developed by Pfizer and German partner BioNTech SE.
According to Ran Balicer, who leads an expert advisory panel on Covid-19 for the Israeli government, "Children under 16, most of whom haven’t been vaccinated, accounted for about half of those infected," he said.
The Delta variant, which first emerged in India in late 2020 and is also known as B.1.617.2, has now been detected in more than 70 countries. In the U.S., public-health experts expect it to soon become the dominant strain. I suspect China, an adversary to India, had a hand in introducing the Delta Variant.

“Almost 50% of the cases in Israel are in vaccinated people.”
*********************************************************
Good to know. Better to know would be 1) how many new “cases” among the vaccinated there are per 100 thousand vaccinated Israelis and 2) how many new “cases” among the unvaccinated there are per 100 thousand unvaccinated Israelis. You know… so you’re comparing Apples to Apples. That helps with clarity of thinking.

denier that vacinnated people can catch or spread covid
CDC didn’t even want to count/test people for covid if they had been vaccinated.

Yikes! I hope the Delta Variant is not as fatal as the mother virus. By the way, 3 of the nearly 60 Texas lawmakers who fled the state Monday to break quorum in the House, have become infected with Covid. I wonder if they caught it while unmasked on the bus and the Plane?

I posted above that this is a MISTAKE.
It is absolutely essential that vaccinated people be followed up later to test for two things:
1) Covid positivity
2) Antibody levels

You forgot to mention that the 3 were already vaccinated.

They are superspreaders.
And I wonder if they are CLAIMING they have the Covid so they can “quarantine” for several weeks and keep from returning to Austin (even if they return home to Texas)

1) How many new “cases” among the vaccinated there are per 100 thousand vaccinated Israelis and 2) how many new “cases” among the unvaccinated there are per 100 thousand unvaccinated Israelis? Those numbers would be good to know. If the Pfizer vaccine is allowing breakthrough infections, the new “cases” per thousand vaccinated would be the important one to know. They were saying that the Pfizer vaccine was fending off the Delta Variant. Now, that looks like a false hope. I think the Delta Variant has morphed into a breakthrough virus which is now being called the Epsilon Variant. It may take a few weeks to determine, as the infections pile up, if Israel is experiencing the effects of the Epsilon Variant. Three mutations in the Epsilon coronavirus spike protein dampen the neutralizing potency of antibodies induced by current vaccines or past COVID infections. I think China is up to these new variants. China and Iran are on the same team. Wait until Israel discovers they have been attacked by China’s bio warfare.

True. All three Texas lawmakers were vaccinated. That will teach me to read the entire article. It also is an alarming development. The Epsilon Variant has emerged: “Three mutations in the Epsilon coronavirus spike protein dampen the neutralizing potency of antibodies induced by current vaccines or past COVID infections.” By the time this nightmare is over we will have learned the complete Greek alphabet.

At this point in time, before we start panicking about variants consuming the Greek Alphabet, it will be useful for us to understand the scientific principle called MULLER’S RATCHET as it applies to virus strains.
Google it.

If I am correct, Muller’s Ratchet will cause a mutational meltdown of the coronavirus. I hope so. I hope before we reach omega that the meltdown will be complete.

We now have a real reason to wear masks. If I’m going to be a group of vaccinees, I’d wear one.
