In the past seven days, South Africa has never come closer to becoming a failed state. The riotous looting has reduced Gauteng and KwaZulu-Natal, the two provinces hit hard by the social unrest into what resembles warzones. The country quickly descended into what could be the beginning innings of a civil war, prompting the government to call up military reserves and seek deployment of up to 25,000 troops to quell the violence.

"It is a war zone . . . towns deserted, shops looted, bodies lying on the road," John Steenhuisen, leader of the main opposition Democratic Alliance, in the province, told Financial Times. "We have an internal African National Congress battle that has spilled over on to the streets of KwaZulu-Natal . . . the initiative has been completely lost by the security services. They need urgent reinforcement."

As others have pointed out, it's mostly tribalism. It's also genetic; these people rioted against Nigerian immigrants would would want to set up shop there and bring some diversity.

The oldest human mtDNA (mother's side) is haplogroup L. It split into L0 and L1-L6. L1-L6 kept diversifying, more or less. Non-africans trace back to L3. L0 did not diversify except into sub-clades and is heavily represented in South Africa.

Russia has offered such an invitation. However, I am unsure as to whether the Russians would want to bring in 2.5 million Afrikaners, who are mostly Protestants of Germanic and French ancestry. Not all are self-sufficient farmers, but are urban workers or professionals. The current Russian state is encouraging of nationalism and supportive of Orthodoxy. Importing the Afrikaners en masse would be contradictory of these goals.

They would be a better fit in the United States, especially the Southern, Midwestern, and Plains states, but even the Trump Administration made no move to encourage their immigration.

Catherine the Great brought in many thousands of German Mennonite settlers in the 18th Century, but Russia was less developed at the time. Even so, their cultural differences and opposition to compulsory military service made them a problem for the later Tsars. Later, the Communists severely persecuted them. Many of the Mennonites emigrated to the U.S. and Canada to escape both the Tsars and the Communists.

The Afrikaners, a mix of Dutch, German, and French settlers of the Reformed faith who arrived in what became South Africa during the 1600s, do not have recent ties to any European country.

Holland and France should offer to take them in to offset the immigration-led usurpation of their cultures. Afrikaners will be better able to assimilate.

I would like to understand what you are sharing, but anthropological terminology is outside of my field. Can you explain it a little more for laypersons reading here?

It would be less of a stretch for them to convert to Orthodox in order to assimilate than it has been for those of non-Christian belief, i.e. most other European invaders immigrants.

Countries don’t just stay together for no reason. If South Africa is to endure the coming decades, it must give its people something to believe in. Failure to do so will allow racial sectionalism to grow, potentially spelling doom for the South African experiment.
