British police opened investigations Monday into the racist abuse of three Black players who missed penalties in England’s shootout loss to Italy in the European Championship final.
The Metropolitan Police condemned the “unacceptable” abuse of Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho and Bukayo Saka, and said they will be investigating the “offensive and racist” social media posts published soon after Italy won....

I havent seen the offending posts but the fact that they are black may not have anything to do with it.
Had they been white and been such a disaster they would have gotten just as blasted.
I am sick of race being blamed on everything.

It’s not the US. They have no first amendment there. Here you can call a person a cracker, a ni**er, or any other racial slur. It might get you fired. It might lose you some friends. But it’s not illegal. In fact, it is protected speech. We literally have a constitutionally protected right to be verbally abusive to others.
Yeah, the choice of PK kickers struck me as odd as it happened.

Yep- apparently there is no rape, murder, theft, assault, etc occurring in England now. You know, real crimes.
That’s not racist. That’s upset fans. Apparently, Brits have never been upset at any white or whatever color skinned player who missed a kick or ever boo-ed a play.
Maybe a hundred Tweets in a nation of millions could have been truly racist.
But questioning Southgate’s motives for wanting those three to take the PKs is not, it defies all logic, other than for wanting to virtual signal.

Cannot remember where I read this BUT goal keepers have a better chance of success if they just guess wher the kicker is aiming and start moving before the kick. The problem is when they guess wrong they look spectacularly stupid. And looks are more important than reason or success.
Rashford made a stilted approach and tied himself up hitting the post.
Far worse misses but it will haunt him. For years.
A mural of him was savaged.
