People don’t go see the women, in most cases. As one Hollywood producer said, they can have any woman placed in a part and it won’t affect the movie overall.
It doesn't matter because Hollywood has gone mad. Why? Simple. Harvey Weinstein destroyed it. He excesses were well known by everyone - male and female - and many women took advantage of it. When he fell from grace it was highly embarassing. First, that so many big female stars got there thanks to a man famous for helping women who slept with him (that embarssed the actresses who all were on record praising him like he was Jesus) and it embarassed the industry that they ALL knew and were caught with their pants down for being silent.
So the embarassed actresses decided to cover for their time on the casting couch by accusing every man in Hollywood of being a rapist (#metoo) and all them men in Hollywood responded by rushing to hire female creators and making every movie about flawlessly perfect women who effortlessly (and boringly) dispense with any conflict.
It all became an ever expanding circle of who could virtue signal the most. And profit was not important.
“Scarlett Johansson Says Women Are Underpaid in Hollywood...”
And just how did she arrive at that conclusion? Who sets the minimum for female actors vs male actors? There are many female actors that get paid much more than their male counterparts. This isn’t a base-salary issue... it’s all about the actors ability to sell ticket at the box-office! A private sector issue that is negotiated at the private level. Making claim that ‘women’ are underpaid in Hollywood is no different then claiming men are underpaid in the escort service.
Complete nonsense because ‘pay’ equals exchange for labor, a negotiated exchange and not an entitled exchange. So if she feels women are underpaid in Hollywood, then the whining women should learn another profession that pays on par with their male counterparts like RN’s in California that get paid an average of $120k/year, same for both male and female nurses.
Just because you work acting rolls in Hollywood, doesn’t mean you are entitled to the same contractual rate as Brad Pitt if you are a male... or Scarlett Johansson if you are a female actor.
You get what you successfully negotiate for that is weighted on your star-power that the producers are gambling on that will translate to ticket sales.
Scarlett Johansson isn’t very bright and is a brainwashed equal-outcome advocate of the Marxist left.
I agree.
There are dozens of male actors who bring unique qualities I will pay to see.
Off the top of my head...
Robert Downey Jr., Denzel Washington, Robert Redford, Paul Newman, Jimmy Stewart, Henry Fonda...
Among female actors, my list is very short...
Julia Roberts, and...hmmm, I might think of a couple more after I post this.
On my smart TV I keep seeing that ad for Black Widow showing Johansen in a tight white outfit. She has an amazing figure. And that’s the foundation upon which her career stands - and what they are promoting in this movie. But she’s getting older and that is going to fade. She’s facing the reality of what it takes to make the grade. For some women - AND men - it’s physical appearance.
And that’s ok. But it is a mistake to think you are something more than that. As they say in the very last line of The Truman Show - “What else is on.”
