A-list actress Scarlett Johansson — who has an estimated net worth of $165 million and topped the Forbes list of highest-paid actresses in 2019 — complained that women are underpaid in Hollywood, and that she is “still fighting that damn fight” to get paid what she is worth.
“As a woman, you have to be [your own ally] all the time, because we are underminded[sic], and underserved, and under-appreciated, and underpaid — you have to be your own ally,” Johansson said in a recent interview with Glamour Magazine.
The Black Widow star went on to say that her mother “instilled that in me from when I was really, really young, because of course she experienced it even more severely than I did, and equal pay is a huge part of that fight.”
“Even when I was a teenager in the industry or a young woman, I should say, my mom would have those conversations, like, ‘Why is she not getting (paid the same)?'” the actress added.
One reason for a pay variation between male and female actors, however, could be explained by male-led films outperforming their female-led counterparts at the box office — a concept that Scarlett Johansson disregarded, and instead, blamed on “sexism.”

“There was always these, like, these little key terms, like, ‘bankability,’ and ‘box office draw,’ and those are all terms that are basically masquerading as sexism,” she told Glamour.

Well there was Mary Pickford and United Artists just over 100 years ago. She had to join with Fairbanks and Chaplin but seems to have been her own person.
You can make the argument that women stars have a short shelf life as leading actresses in Hollywood and that has been true since day one. They are replaceable at the drop of a hat and I would tell Scarlett to enjoy the ride and make as much money as possible, by the time she is 40 or so the camera will not lie and they will be looking for someone else.
Men can stay at the top a long time if they do things right. I give Sly Stallone still making action pictures into his 70’s, or Clint Eastwood. People would have gone to see Sean Connery even if he played a geriatric James Bond looking for Blofeld in a nursing home, I know I would have. Lord Michael Caine is still making movies at almost 90 and is still a draw.

The right sees INDIVIDUALS who are female. Each INDIVIDUAL stands or falls on their own ability, tenacity, talent, skill and determination. There is no “women”. There are only individuals. That is how our constitution describes us. It is how our constitution protects us.
I was in a sports bar with some friends last night. One of the TV’s was showing a women’s basketball game. Seattle vs someone else. I saw five shots before someone made one. It was comical. Should they be paid the same as men’s basketball. Seems the bar is a bit higher for the latter.
On my smart TV I keep seeing that ad for Black Widow showing Johansen in a tight white outfit. She has an amazing figure. And that’s the foundation upon which her career stands - and what they are promoting in this movie. But she’s getting older and that is going to fade. She’s facing the reality of what it takes to make the grade. For some women - AND men - it’s physical appearance.
And that’s ok. But it is a mistake to think you are something more than that. As they say in the very last line of The Truman Show - “What else is on.”

Why didnt i make 10 milion for my chick flick hardly anyone saw but brad pitt made 10 milion for world war z?
Or why did the actress who played brad pitts wife in world war z make the same as brad even though she had far less lines and screen time as brad?
Even though she has near zero draw power to bring people into the theater to watch, its almost all 100% the draw power of brad pitt.
They have no understanding of capitalism and supply and demand, that not all things are equal, ...
You know not all detergents are priced the same. Some clean a lot better than others, and they usually cost more, and perhaps more people buy them over others that dont work as well or are in less demand than others.
Most actresses retirement age is 25.
They cant write tough females because they are trying to write them not to the strengths of women that make a good woman character.
They have an agenda to push instead of makig a good character, movie and story. They come across as angry and bitchy and manhating. Thats not a success formula.
Consider the first Alien movie. The Ripley character was great. They wrote the character as a man, and then later decided to cast a woman. Thats why that character worked. As the series went on the character got worse, IMO.
