The original was great but (IMO) the pacing and tension was better in the remake.

Well, it was shot on location in cold temperatures as well as I remember. It was supposed to have a claustrophobic feel to it because these guys were in an isolated station.

Much better IMHO

I remember seeing “The Thing” in the theater when it came out; that opening scene with the “ba-DUM.... ba-DUM...” music just set the tone.
One of the more comical things I remember is the way the entire audience was literally screaming when the dogs were getting attacked... no one cared about the PEOPLE getting mauled, it was the reaction to the dogs getting killed that got everybody freaked.... especially when the alien was busting out of the dog, initially.
And I am an absolute dog lover, so yes, I was yelling my head off too....
“I don’t know, but whatever it is it’s weird and it’s pissed off...” Lol.... Best line ever.

The movies pale in comparison to the original story, ‘Who Goes There?’ By John Campbell. May be the best sci-fi story of all time.

Carpenter had one called “Prince of Darkness” around then too, which was pretty damned scary.

Right. That’s my point. It’s a great flick, I just don’t think it will be any better in UHD. The original soundtrack was 4.1, so I don’t expect any gain over Bluray there.
There is supposed to be a The Thing reboot coming in 2022, so this is probably just building up for that. John Carpenter will be in on the reboot, so it might be good, but probably woke...

Yes! People freaked out and actually thought Kurt Russell had shot a real whimpering Husky in the heart that was being assimilated. It looked real as hell.

"Has anyone seen 2011’s The Thing? It’s the prequel to John Carpenter’s movie that takes place at the Norwegian station right before the events of the dog being shot at as it comes up to the McMurdo station where Kurt Russell’s character is.I encourage anyone to watch it. It’s the Norwegians that stumbles upon the saucer buried in the ice. You’ll get to see all that and how the Thing escapes from them."
Yes, I've seen it. I love how they tied the two movies together. I agree with your recommendation. Definitely worth a look.

I love the still shot of Mac (Kurt Russell) standing behind the empty block of ice holding the Ithaca 37 pump.
It's iconic.
