Chicago’s Lightfoot plays victim in city’s crime spike

With the continuing disasters of Democrat-run cities, it would be easy to become numb to the chaos and violence rolling through some of America’s most historic metropolises. But that is not the answer; silence and apathy are never the answer.

Now is the time, in fact, to look directly at those who facilitate these arenas of death. There are liars corralling their victims (those previously known as constituents) into dumpster fires that used to be gleaming symbols of American opportunity.

Now, galloping through her urban war zone, one mayor of a Hell Town, USA is blaming racism, sexism, the courts, COVID, and whatever other bell might toll for her town’s river of blood in a vain and ghoulish attempt to protect herself. Her name is Lori Lightfoot.

Ms. Lightfoot is the mayor of Chicago. Her town is now what one of its own alderman characterized as a “war zone,” and for good reason. Fox News reported, “Chicago Alderman Anthony Napolitano reacted to the violent Fourth of July weekend in his city on Monday, calling the area a ‘war zone,’ and slammed local leaders, including Mayor Lori Lightfoot, for the increase in crime. ‘We are averaging over 6,000 people shot over the last 18 months,’…Napolitano also slammed Cook County State’s Attorney Kimberly Foxx, who he referred to as ‘by far the worst in the nation,’ for the increase in crime.

“He said that when criminals get arrested, ‘they’re out within a couple hours because we have the worst state’s attorney in the country, [who] wants to prosecute nobody’…” reported Fox News.

Last Thursday as the 4th of July holiday weekend was about to get underway, in unrelated acts of violence, a 1-month-old baby girl and a 9-year-old girl were both shot in the head. And that was only the monstrous beginning.

“in unrelated acts of violence”

Those who wish for order in society and low crime levels are simply racists. Oh, and anti-LGBTQXYZs!

I’ve lived in the inner-city for 30+ years. I don’t know anyone who’s been shot, definitely don’t know anyone who’s been murdered.
Even those I associate with could only count 2 or 3 murders in all that time, and everyone would agree those victims are just bad seeds.
It’s almost completely feral humans killing (or trying to kill) other ferals. I’m really not sure why I should care at all.

I find the stray bullet that goes through an old frame house and cripples a kid watching TV to be something to care about.

She’s totally incompetent. Worse than Bottoms in the ATL.

If that happened with any kind of frequency at all, you'd have a point.

Having lived in the inner-city for 30+ years and, thusly, having never heard of an "old frame house" I can only assume that you mean a brick row house, or that you have no familiarity with firearms. Both cannot be true at the same time.

Your statement reminds me of people who are terrified that their kids will be gunned down at school by someone with a "machine gun".

Stop clutching your pearls and look at things rationally.

I don’t live in Chicago anymore, but this very thing actually happened where I live.

Are you saying that no innocent bystanders are ever shot/killed in Chicago? I had no idea that the shooters there were such fine marksmen. If that’s not true, what number (or at least ratio) would you find acceptable. I have no love for these bums either, but decent people of any economic circumstances have a right to live their lives without fear of getting shot.

News for Lightfoot - Once you let the cork out of the bottle you’re not going to get it back in.

Really? "Any frequency at all" essentially means "never" to you?

I'm an economic realist. Should we pour every dollar into making sure that no children get shot, ever? No. We're a country of 365 million people, tragedies are going to happen, that's something mature adults accept.

Look, more kids die in swimming pools than get shot, every year, and I'm not talking about gang-bangers.

On the other hand, what do you suggest be done to stop the dozens of children shot/killed by stray bullets every year, and why isn't the solution applied to swimming pools?

What strikes me is the helplessness Lightfoot and other left wing politicians convey as a response to the crime wave. There is nothing I can do to stop it. Of course the proper response is to aggressively arrest and lock up all criminals to send the message to the street that lawlessness will not be tolerated. Being tough on cops and soft on crime invites the anarchy Chicago is suffering.
