Police said Tuesday they believe a Cobb County golf pro was not targeted when he was shot and killed Saturday afternoon at his Kennesaw country club.

Gene Siller went to check on a report of an unauthorized pickup truck that had driven onto the Pinetree County Club course around 2:30 p.m., police said. Shortly after, officers found him on the green of the 10th hole with a gunshot wound to the head, police spokeswoman Officer Shenise Barner told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

Police believe Siller “happened upon a crime in progress” and was “killed because he witnessed an active crime taking place.”

Good point if factual

Yes, the truck was owned by Paul Pierson. A local ATL TV station is now reporting Pierson (SP?) was 76-years old...

...which makes it even weirder.

Gee, I guess all of the anti-police commenters on FR may now understand why police are “jumpy” when they approach strangers in cars where suspected criminal activity is afoot? Here’s a golf course greenskeeper who simply went out to see what a truck was doing out on the golf course, probably thinking it was kids goofing around, and now he is dead.

That is a good question. Until just an hour ago, the only information the media had was essentially from the day of the shooting. Police indicated they had no idea who pulled the trigger and most media outlets refused to report the complete description of the alleged shooter (a Hispanic male with long hair, white shirt and ‘work’ pants).

With the latest press release, the police don’t indicate if they know or don’t know who the shooter is.

The dead owner of the truck was 76-years old and was not from Atlanta. He was reportedly in town ‘on business.’

But, police want to make sure everyone understands there’s no continuing threat to the public....because sure there isn’t.

As you point,”There is a lack of description of the dead non golfers.”

Then, there is nothing re the possible shooter.

Siller was not a groundskeeper. He was the head pro at the club.

The Cobb Police are too astute to need my advice, but a ground-penetrating radar check of the area’s golf course sand traps might yield interesting results.

The golf pro who was murdered is a good acquaintance of my partner. They played together at a country club to which he belongs. We’ve been in shock since last weekend.

It’s an isolated incident for an area just north of Atlanta, but it sure felt like Chicago had suddenly moved to Kennesaw, Ga. for the fourth.

There’s more to the story that will come out in time.

Prayers for his wife and their 6 and 7 year old children.

He was not a member of some alledged protected class.

He was the father of two young children, a local church member and had kissed his wife goodbye that morning before heading off to work to support his family. His job was to facilitate the running of a private club to which people who work hard and earn enough money to be able to play golf occasionally liked to go.

So, next time you get the impulse to open your yap in public regarding something which you do not know jack shit about, do the rest of us here the common courtesy of keeping your comnments to yourself, lest we conclude you’re as dumb and inconsiderate and mean as you now deserve to be thought of.

A golf course DOES seem to be a good place for a drug deal. There would NOT normally be a bunch of cameras watching a gold course.

Perp knows the golfers have drugs. He kills the two and steals the drugs. Pro golfer stumbles upon the scene and is also shot to death

I believe the poster was not referring to the deceased golf pro, but rather other members of the crime scene.
