not sure what a comparison to 2008 & 2012 buys anybody.
A population reduction includes kids...

The last time a Repub carried Il was 41 in 1988.
Deep Red counties have turned purple\blue since then.

Of the 102 counties in Il., Hillary had 12 counties in 2016. Biden had 14 in 2020
For Mclean & Kendall counties, Pres. Trump squeaked by Hillary in 2016. He got buried there in 2020. Each had more voters in both counties in 2020.

Illinois:
Pres. Trump's 2020 vote total = 2,446,891; his 2016 vote total = 2,146,015
Pres. Biden's 2020 vote total = 3,471,915; Hillary 2016 vote total 3,090,729

a bigger difference was less 3rd party votes in 2020.
2016 =357,535; 2020 = 130,694

If someone decides to go down an Illinois path for fraud at the Fed level, I'm guessing it comes up a dry hole or not "widespread".
