Thanks to the Robinsons FREE REPUBLIC continues as the most user friendly conservative web site available to the public. The posted replies on a variety of threads are informative and interesting. Thank you Jim and those who help to make this site available for further insight and information on what is actually happening to our Republic. The Trump site people would do well to take a hard look at the set up of FR, especially user friendly and sign up.

Knarf, you joined 6 days after me . . . and I absolutely concur with your words. FR has been a happy home for conservatives and even a place where Christians were made to feel welcome.

I can’t believe my original screen name was Lestat (From the Anne Rice vampire series), but Jim graciously changed it to what it is today.

I know there are some that are trying to change the direction of the site, but as long as JR is in charge of the place it will stay on focus and on glide path.

My husband, Freeper 1John, found this site in’98 and got me hooked on it— immediately.
It has been my “go to” site ever since, and in times of trial—like September 11, 2001, my husband’s sudden passing in 2002, the diastrous elections of 2008 and 2020, and many others—I can always find comfort and encouragement from the posts of fellow Freepers.
So, again, knarf, I thank you this thread, and thank God for giving Jim and John Robinson the wisdom and skill to keep this site going for nigh onto 24 years!

Agree. The FR forum software is the best on the interwebs, proving that Leonardo da Vinci was onto something when he said that "simplicity is the highest sophistication." Conversations flow naturally even when they branch out, with no need for no steenking outline to organize them. Overall it just works, which is sort of the holy grail of tech and especially of interfaces. Somehow the Robinsons managed to nail it right out of the gate twenty something years ago.

A nice improvement would be the ability to preview the title when posting an article. And of course image hosting. Maybe also more HTML automation, like the ability to automatically create hot links even after you've used an HTML tag.

As another member of the class of ‘98, I agree that the FR engine is without a doubt the best thing going! Yes, there have been changes along the way but Jim has held a steady hand on the tiller and brought us through some challenging times. There was once a way to determine the sequence of signup but that is long gone - does anyone remember the number members with screen names in 1998?

I was also a 1998 “joiner”. Saw an ad about the March for Justice in D.C. and took a look at the FR site. Being computer novice I puttered around until I figured out how to join and never looked back. It’s been my retreat from the internet and my home page. I donate quarterly. THANK YOU JIM AND JOHN for the best place on the net and my “home page”.
