The young midshipman needed a date one evening while he was home from the U.S. Naval Academy, so his younger sister paired him with a family friend who already had a crush.
Nearly eight decades later, Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter are still together in the same tiny town where they were born, grew up and had that first outing. In between, they’ve traveled the world as Naval officer and military spouse, American president and first lady, and finally as human rights and public health ambassadors.
“It’s a full partnership,” the 39th president told The Associated Press during a joint interview ahead of the couple’s 75th wedding anniversary on July 7. […]
The nonagenarians — she’s now 93 — offered a few other tips for an enduring bond.
“Every day there needs to be reconciliation and communication between the two spouses,” the former president said, explaining that he and Rosalynn, both devout Christians, read the Bible together aloud each night — something they’ve done for years, even when separated by their travels. “We don’t go to sleep with some remaining differences between us,” he said. …

Good for them. True love is a nice thing to see.
Jimmy Carter told “Playboy” during the 1976 campaign that he “committed adultery in his heart” with women.
I will never disagree with the truth of that statement and it looks like Jimmy Carter had to live with that truth as well and committed himself to a long marriage with his own wife.
this gives me hope that my husband and I can make it to our 80th!! we’ll only be 99 and 100.
Amen.
Talking softly and slowly like Jimmah does is not being nice when the words are hatred of America and hatred of Americans.
Hard to believe.
There is a cheesy Peter Graves movie that showed some of Iran around that same time.
Gee thanks Jimmuh.
Isn’t Israel where Jinnah went for his LIFE SAVING cancer treatment?
Yes. A Jew-hating demon. Jimmah literally began the absurd "apatheid" libel against Israel, by using the word in his book title (the book flopped)
Jimmah wasnt a great president and has a few flaws as mentioned here but overall a decent guy. Habitat for Humanity is his baby. You dont see Barry giving back to the ‘community’ just takers. As for Rosalynn a classy FLOTUS and didnt meddle in policy matters, at least not publicly like Hellary and Doctored Jill.
Does he still have lust in his heart?
“Full partnership”
My reaction, too. “Congratulations on Your 75th Full Partnership.”
Kind of like “Happy Birthing Person’s Day.”
Woke-ola crap on steroids. Blech!!
And Carter is still toasted by the left today as a great President. Look at this, this is a hospital in Tehran. Look at the women now, all dressed head to toe in Burkas. Imagine having to wear that crap in 105 degree heat which is the average daytime temperature over there now............https://www.google.com/maps/@35.6400672,51.4208299,3a,70.3y,166.47h,79.1t/data=!3m8!1e1!3m6!1sAF1QipNHzk4RqM-DWtZkajDSdO3OTV3R9zF-5GUeGYL1!2e10!3e11!6shttps:%2F%2Flh5.googleusercontent.com%2Fp%2FAF1QipNHzk4RqM-DWtZkajDSdO3OTV3R9zF-5GUeGYL1%3Dw203-h100-k-no-pi0-ya290.8866-ro-0-fo100!7i9216!8i3864

Surprised they didn’t call each other “Life Mates”.
The Carters’ marriage is separate and apart from his time as President, the effects of his policies and his demonstrated attitudes since then. WRT his marriage, good for them if they have been are happy. If his wife could overlook or deal with his “lust in my heart” statement and all it implies, who am I to second guess that?
That said, I have lots to criticize about his public persona. His utterly disastrous appeasement policies emboldened the Soviet Union to be aggressive beyond their borders and accelerate a military buildup that cost this country hundreds of billions of dollars to counter. Tens to hundreds of thousands of people lost their lives, and many mire had their lives destroyed, as a result - and the moral implications of that are on him. His incredible weakness and hatred of this country’s influence in the Mideast led directly to the fall of the Shah of Iran and the bringing to power of the mad mullahs. We are STILL dealing with the effects of that, more than 40 years later. Israel in particular is still having to deal with it and faces the potential of a nuclear attack by Iran, only 75 years after the Holocaust.
His weakness (or hatred of this country’s strength, take your pick) led directly to the1979 Soviet invasion of Afghanistan (that would never have occurred had the Shah or his son been running Iran), which led to the deaths of hundreds of thousands of Afghans - and our involvement, which itself led to the radicalization and arming of people like Osama Bin Laden...and we all knew where that led. Much of the death and misery resulting from this are on his head.
His continuing baseless criticism of, and obvious hatred of, Israel and it’s right to exist as a secure nation is a deep stain on his soul and legacy. To me, it ties in quite clearly and directly with his Baptist faith, as Baptists officially (and not individually, of course) have been in the forefront of trying to convert Jews to Christianity - put simply, if the Baptist church could, it would literally wipe out the Jews as a separate people.
His public tolerance for abortion and gay issues is, IMHO, a clear contradiction with his self-avowed “Christian morality.”
His support for Clinton and Obama after their natures were revealed speak to his false claims of being incredibly moral.
His purposeful misleading of the American public about his supposed humility was a lie, and mocks God. I speak here specifically of his penchant for carrying supposedly full suitcases to Marine One to or from the White House, which is in complete contradiction to what really happened (according to Secret Service agents who were there and know better), which is that those suitcases were empty and the real ones were taken care of by others. I don’t particularly care if a President uses federal employees to help with personal tasks while they are President, but I do care if the hypocritical bastards lie about it to appear as if they are some kind of super-moral being.
The only good thing that he did as a politician, IMHO, was to arrange peace between Israel and Egypt, though I also believe that such would have occurred anyway at some point because it was in the interest of both countries. To be fair, he deserves credit for getting them to sign a deal sooner than would have occurred otherwise.
In summary, congratulations to the hypocritical, weak, America- and Jew-hating bastard and his wife on their 75th anniversary.
Is that a young Christiane Amanpour on the guitar?
Overall? So is his antipathy for Israel and his support for anti-Christian causes (for a supposed “devout Christian”) part of the “overall”?
Comparing with Obama is a red herring.
Eh? Ortega’s first relinquishing of power happened under Bush 41, and the pressure the Contras put on during the Reagan years had weakened Ortega. Carter actually aided the Sandinistas after hosting Ortega at the White House in 1979.
If you’re referring to Habitat for Humanity, it has been plagued by a number of scandals.
Why does criticism of the man suddenly get interpreted as “hate” here? Thought this was FR. I certainly do not hate the man or his wife, but I hate the bad things he does.
Just wish they could have been a private couple we never had to hear about.
