If you have an old mattress cover, they make great batting. Already quilted!

Oh, good! Never got to it, but we’ll start it tonight. Beau is home for a week or so before he goes back up to Bear Camp.

Guess what he brought home with him? Yep. ANOTHER puppy!

I’ll post pix in the Garden Thread later. ;)

Hobby Lobby. Online sources: Denver fabrics, FabricMart, HomeSew and others. One problem is getting into shipping expenses on some of those.

Actually also try WalMart, because they have some surprises there. They have lots of pre-cut, stable knits that are $2-6 for 2-3 yards.

Some thrift (Goodwill?) stores also sell fabrics, and you can watch for fabrics in estate sale/moving sale-type ads.

Another option is finding large garments made of lovely fabrics, at Goodwill/thrift stores, and cutting them at the seams to recycle the fabric.

Try this...

https://www.fabric.com/fiber-content-range/cotton-or-cotton-blends

You might be able to find some discounted and/or inexpensive enough fabric to offset the shipping cost.

Good luck! :-)

Also, she can see pattern reviews here:

https://sewing.patternreview.com/

Click on reviews, and as a nonmember, there are some time limits on seeing the reviews, but can also search by pattern type, manufacturer, number, etc. Inside each review, the sewist provides info about the fabric used, and often lists the source.

Thanks so much! All good ideas. As a temporary work-around we found 70/30 sheets on sale at Thursday Morning and that might work out.

Yes, sheets are good, especially for trial garments. Bedding would be another category to check out at thrift stores. I have also (for special occasions and/or costumes) purchased fabric online from places that sell tablecloths and/or drape panels. Very affordable options for voile, satins, etc.

Thanks! I’m getting excited because I’m down to 3 pattern rows & then the border & I’ll be finished. :-)

Finished the first knit lace baby blanket - I was sweating the bind off, but did it "in pattern" with a size larger needle & it's perfect - really pleased. I'll save pics for next month.

Meanwhile, back at the ranch ..... I have started blanket #2. This is the one I REALLY wanted to make - the first one was 'practice', more or less. IF I can finish it in time (x Aug 8) and IF my niece doesn't have anything already & wants it, I will give it to her for my great-nephew's baptism. It's white, which is a traditional color for baptisms.

So far, so good - the lessons from the first blanket are paying off applied to this 2nd one. I've worked through 2 rounds (20 rows each) so the pattern is finally showing up. There was one pattern blip (poorly written), but I figured it out after ripping back the first row to the border (love those lifelines!) and since that little episode, I've been sailing along. It's a good thing the garden doesn't need a lot of attention right now. :-)

PS - I have been a crocheter for years & LOVE it; however, with working to speed up my knitting (self-taught, so big hand position issues), getting comfortable with how the stitches work (so I can unknit, recover stitches that aren't right, etc.) and getting some beautiful results, I am very much falling in love with knitting.
