Tricia Romano writes about how a convicted rapist became culturally cuddly.
Mike Tyson might not be the boxing heavyweight champion of the world anymore, but he's the champ of the comeback: he's just finished his first one-man show in Las Vegas and he just launched an iPhone app. As he nurses his hopes to get his show onto Broadway, he’s also busy flying to Poland pimping energy drinks and telling overseas audiences during appearances about his lifelong goal: becoming a missionary.
Before her ill-fated talk show folded on Oprah's network, Rosie O'Donnell had the boxer on as a guest, and later he helped her celebrate her 50th birthday and sang her “Happy Birthday.” After, she Tweeted: "u r quite lovely with such an open heart - ur family is beautiful - so r u - xxx see u in Vegas !!!"
I don’t forgive people for raping other people... That’s way above my pay grade.
If it happened to me then I might have to ponder it.
Just from what I read, I didn’t think Tyson raped that woman. I’m a woman and knew a few women that were extremely cunning, evil people in regards to men. I don’t know what happened, but the details didn’t add up to me.
I’ve always had a lot of reservations about the accusations against Cosby.
I know what things are like with ‘groupies’ and opportunistic women (and men!) - and especially what things were like in the 60s and 70s.
And it bothers me a lot that women who didn’t come forward when the alleged assaults actually occurred, waited up to decades to accuse.
“We” don’t forgive, or not forgive, crimes that have nothing to do with us.
People are tried by the State, and are punished according to law. Unless we are on the jury, or are a victim, we don’t hear the case, we don’t know the facts, and we don’t judge.
This notion that there is a “we”, pioneered by People magazine and now imitated a thousand times a day, is nonsense.
Which details didn’t add up?
Ultimately no is no if a girl doesn’t want to have sex. But I tend to think Mike Tyson went on every ‘date’ he went on thinking this girl wants to have sex because that’s usually how it played out. On the other hand I don’t think Bill Cosby thought hey this girl probably wants to be drugged and raped. It’s a different level of evil than what Tyson was convicted of.
The sick thing about this article is I tend to think the author wants both men to be completetely forgiven because there’s really no such thing as evil behavior anymore. At least in some twisted minds.
Fifty years ago, police, prosecutors, and the media were far less supportive of women who brought charges like this.
It was pure he said/she said. She invited him to her hotel room. Everything else is known only by the two of them.
But if the women had done, is there any proof that they did? A police report should remain on file and record.
I know that if a man did to me what Cosby has been accused of, I’d be on the ‘phone to the police.
(Unless, of course, I went to his hotel room or his house of my own volition, and various things ensued to which I suspect I may have been party.)
Women have to be responsible for their own behavior and safety, instead of being wimps who voluntarily get themselves into bad situations and then cry about the predictable outcomes.
Yes, I've heard women had it really hard (no pun intended) in the 1860's and 70's.
I'm so glad you lived to tell the tale.
You should write a book.
You really are obsessed with me, aren’t you?
(No important Q stuff to do?)
You seem to have a soft spot for guys who admit to drugging and raping women. Going so far as threatening posters here who dare say anything negative about Bill Cosby.
Before you come back at me, tell us the circumstances that you would sign a confession, or any kind of testimony at all, like Cosby did, saying that you drugged and raped women? My answer is never. How about yours?
Maybe ultimately in the United States court of law Bill Cosby has to be deemed not guilty. But in a court of common sense he’s guilty. Sorry you can’t see that.
Can you post his affidavit attesting to that, and the court record?
I distinctly recall testimony to the effect that at least one woman ASKED for a drug...
Cosby was guilty as sin.
Were all the women ‘not-guilty’?
I know too many rape victims. Nope. Not gonna happen.
“Cosby haters” = people who hate serial rapists.
fieldchicken = hypocrite and coward, probably a child molester
bullshit take
