The Sopranos are back... but have been recast as their younger selves for a prequel film.
Set nearly 40 years before the HBO series aired, The Many Saints of Newark reimagines the iconic mob group in their younger years against the backdrop of the 1967 race riots in Newark, New Jersey.
The exact details of the film – which will be released in theatres and HBO Max on October 1 – remain unclear, but will see the likes of Paulie, Junior and Livia help mold Tony into the hardened criminal we later come to know.
The Many Saints of Newark... will involve the rivalry between the powerful DiMeo crime family and the several rival organisations rising to challenge them, with Tony's uncle Dickie tied up in the brewing conflict.
The series was plagued with pushbacks due to the coronavirus pandemic. The prequel was slated for a 2020 release but will now be released on October 1 in theaters and simultaneously on HBO Max.
All crap all the time.
We’ll finally find out if Tony really didn’t have the makings of a varsity athlete.

Maybe. Is it “woke” now?
HARD PASS!
Vera Farmiglia as Livia ! Perfect!
One thing you know is it should have a great soundtrack, I can’t tell you how many great songs I discovered thanks to The Sopranos.
A desperate and naked push to involve black actors.
They were. Very detailed too.
How many times we’ll hear the following:
“Oh!”
“Waddayagonnado?”
“Look who it is!”
“All due respect”
The more I watched the sopranos series again
The worse Tony’s character became
Except in the remake, Tony Soprano (by Woke Law) will have to be a homosexual black man and his wife, Carmela, will be a transsexual (a post-transition biological woman) Asian man. And instead of a strip club, Tony’s legitimate business will be a vegan restaurant while his underworld business will be stealing and re-selling carbon credits and Tesla automobiles.
Difficult to imagine how anything could top the original series - the episode wherein the crew attempts an intervention with Christopher because of his drug use and ends up beating him and sending him to the ER is still about the funniest thing i can remember seeing on TV........
