"Unchain My Heart" is a song written by Bobby Sharp and recorded first in 1961 by Ray Charles and in 1963 by Trini Lopez and later by many others. The track was further popularized by Joe Cocker when he named his 1987 album after the song.

Great song. Another good one by Joe Cocker is “You Can Leave Your Hat On”, my favorite.
For the last years of his life, Joe lived in a very small town - about 200 people - on the Western Slope in Colorado. Joe owned quite a few acres there and raised some kind of exotic cattle. He and his wife built an enormous Tudor mansion, and also ran a diner and souvenir shop in the little “downtown. By chance, my brother and his wife moved to this town and soon learned that if you lived there, you were “friends” with the Cockers. At least twice a year - definitely on Boxing Day and also for birthdays and such - they would throw big parties (black tie!!) and invite literally every person in town. My brother became very fond of Joe and was so sad when he passed.
Always Loved him. Saw him in concert once- he did not disappoint.
Best singer, best voice ever.
I was also at that concert. Exactly as you describe. Water was scarce.
Never would have know that. That’s great. Thanks.
By shear luck- I ended up sitting behind two beautiful college babes who somehow were able to bring in a full ice chest full of LoneStar Longnecks on ice. I was dying of thirst so I offered them my whole bag of “ Cigretts” for a drink of beer. They looked at each other and said- grab a beer and light a cigret!
I spent the rest of the concert with them. Every time I opened a longneck- all eyes would be on us. I was sure we were going to cause a riot- but never did.
That’s the night I knew there is a GOD!
Some memories are golden…and unbelievable to those not there. Good on you, dude.
Joe was pretty messed up in the 70s, but he cleaned up and from all I heard was a great guy. RIP.
Of course it’s hard to think of Joe without thinking of him and Belushi on SNL.
You are correct about Cocker being messed up in the 70’s- but there is truth to the saying- If you can remember the 70’s then you weren’t there!🍺
And yes Belushi did do a perfect Cocker because that was Cocker giving it his all., “with a little help from his friends”.👌
Great memories!!
