Actually- I saw him twice. First time was 1973-ish Texas stadium in Austin.
Was Bad Company; Joe Cocker; Santana and ZZ Top- Tres Hombres.
80,000 fans, very hot and people passing out Trying to get drinks.
So nobody paid attention to Bad Company cause it was to hot.
Cocker came on and performed a couple of songs- took a can cold beer and popped it open and chugged it, the proceeded to throw the empty can at the crowd and says “ FLOCK THIS SHITE” Everybody booed. It was Hot!
Santana came on and was great, it ZZ BLEW THE TOP OF- literally.
ZZ was banned from ever playing there again due to the damage caused to the playing field.
You can see why I tend to forget seeing Cocker the first time.

I was also at that concert. Exactly as you describe. Water was scarce.

Joe was pretty messed up in the 70s, but he cleaned up and from all I heard was a great guy. RIP.
Of course it’s hard to think of Joe without thinking of him and Belushi on SNL.
